how about secondaries? i know you should submit as soon as you can finish them but what if you got them done quickly when your primary is a bit late. does that help at all?The process of applying takes about a year. You want to get started as soon as the site opens for the year, and submit asap.
I would say submitting your primary application after Sept 1 is late.
thanks for the reply. i know the earlier the better, unfortunately it doesnt apply to me because i want to take a class in summer to boost my GPA a bit that ends in early July. do you think this will put me at a major disadvantage?I would recommend getting the primary in after the site opens asap, and start getting your letter writers started before even that! You want to get that in asap so that you can get verified. Then, you are more likely to get secondaries quicker. Secondaries should then be sent back to schools as they one to you. A lot of people say you should have them back to the school in no more than a month from the time that you got it.
Quicker you get things in and completed...the sooner you get those coveted interview invites and acceptances!
If you are applying to both MD and DO, apply at the same time to both.

awesome! thank you. if june-august is early, is anything in september on considered a 'late' application?June-August is still early. I would still submit everything in the beginning and send in an updated transcript when you finish the class as AACOMAS will change your primary application GPA upon the update.

i getcha. i trust your advice. thank you!Depends on the school, KCU (KCUMB) filled their entire class before Christmas came.
Once you hit Nov-Dec then you're really pushing it if you don't have excellent stats, just ask @Goro if you don't believe me!
Just to be clear, I can submit the primary to one school to get verified, then if I have extra EC hours etc., I can update those hours once verified and get them sent to all other schools I plan on applying to, correct? It'd be wise to submit your primary ASAP to at least one school so it can get verified, since that takes a while. If you want to wait until July to submit secondaries, that shouldn't be a big deal-breaker.

How can you do that? Through ACCOMAS or sending update letters?
September is still not considered late OP. I would say it is still slightly early/okay.
September is late.
OP, a very important thing to do when using SDN is to check who is giving you advice. Dreamstoo for example is also pre-med.
There is a reason that 100% of people who have gone through this are telling you to apply early.
You need to fill out the primary app, proofread your paragraphs, enter in your college courses and upload LORs. this takes a lot time.
You need to get transcripts mailed from your college, reviewed/processed by the aacomas people, and confirmed to the application. This takes time.
You meed to submit the application for processing. This takes A LOT of time.
Then you need to wait for secondaries to come in. This takes time.
You need to fill out the secondaries with essay answers, proofread, double checked.
And no, you arent going to be able to use the same essay answer twice. Schools all have relatively unique secondaries. This takes time.
Then you need to wait for the adcoms to receive the secondary, read it, and decide if they want to interview you. This takes time.
Then you hopefully get to schedule interviews. Where the adcoms will have to meet again and decide of you will be accepted or not. This too takes time.
early means early. When the application site opens up, you get started on all of this.
Trust me, the longer you wait, the worse off you will be.
My application went out in October and got accepted everywhere I applied. September isn't late.
If you get your application out before September your early (submitted not starting verification)
September October is on time
November is starting to be late
December and after is late.
After febuary I would say don't bothet
No. September is late
Well I wasn't complete till late October. One school I wasn't complete until November. My interviews was in December and January. 100% acceptance rate.
Of course get it in as early as possible.
And there are schools who fill their entire class by Feb.
You applied in October, and October is late.
You applied late. If you applied earlier, i assume you would have had a shot at an MD school.

First I'm talking about DO schools not MD. I didn't apply MD since I wasn't interested in them.
My school is still accepting people. However, if the class isn't full till febuary how is September late? I got accepted to every DO school I applied. I applied to one of them in November. September certainly isn't late.
We get it dude you got accepted.

Hi there, it is kind of getting confusing for me here!!
I was wondering would it be okay if someone with 3.5-3.6 gpa and MCAT (~assuming 506) submits primaries by 1st week of August and takes the MCAT at Aug 20?
Would it be considered early/okay and especially if the person is on international status? Thanks for input!
The majority of applications come in after mid July through end of Sept (So a Sept app is on time). Somewhere in that time some schools often increase their criteria for acceptance, but you should be above that. With your gpa and assumed!! MCAT!!! you should be ok if you apply broadly. No idea on the effects of being an international applicant, but many DO schools have regional biases.
Look up on some of my past posts the challenge of submitting prior to your mcat score coming in (you might get auto rejected at some schools) and consider a throwaway school (look that up to if you have to ask).
Good Luck
Thanks! Just for additional clarification, the September on-time-frame implies submission of application on September or to also be verified during then? Like if I take MCAT on Aug 20 and submit my primary on Sept 20 (given the potential risks of submitting early before MCAT score release), that would imply another month to get the application verified (~assuming Oct 20). Would that still be considered within September time-frame? I know it sounds a little naive, but bear with me! Thanks!
It takes approximately a month to get verified. That's the benefit of a throwaway school, so you could get verified starting tomorrow and be done early August except for mcat and then submit to all schools as soon as the mcat comes into AACOMAS.
