I dont know what degree you have or anything, but my little brother has a tutor for 7th grade algebra and the guy makes $25 an hour and comes once-twice a week. He is a teacher at the school though, and I think that is why he probably makes so much.

I knew a grad student who was tutoring a student in intro physics... he charged about 20 bucks an hour.
Yeah, I tutor College students in the intro Bio series. For private tutorials, I get $15 thru the school (ie student athletes) and I charge $20 an hour for normal students (they pay themselves). I don't have any teaching credentials and am just an undergrad like all of my students. Tutoring is the best!
I tutor high school biology, g-chem, and spanish through a company and I make $17/hr. One of the parents told me that they get charged ~$50/hr though so that's quite a markup...

It depends on whether or not if you have experience and feel confident you have really mastered the material so you can answer any questions the tutoree asks. If it's your first time- which I think it is...otherwise you wouldn't be asking us what's the going rate- I'd charge $10/hr. This is to get some experience and make them feel you're worth the money/time to invest in. Then the next tutoree down the road, you can mark up the price.

I tutor highschool kids for this tutoring company. I get $20 dollars an hour from the company, but I am sure the company gets almost $30 an hour from the student.
Dont sell yourself short. Good luck.

Whoa, that is a whole lot more than what I was expecting! But I'm glad to know, thanks for all your input. For those of you that work at tutoring places, are they places like Sylvin?
Yup, I work at a place very similar to Sylvan Learning but it's more towards SAT prep. I get paid $20/hr, usually 28 hours a weekWhoa, that is a whole lot more than what I was expecting! It depends! I charge 35/hr for any tutoring, but I don't have many clients and spend outside time preparing for my sessions. The more you charge, the more your time is valued.
I worked briefly for an ACT prep place that legit charged parents 50/hr and paid me 16.50 when they paid me at all.
