I'm a first year dental student. I'm wondering how I start an externship at a base and if I'm limited in what I can do because I have not done my officer training? I will like to start getting familiar with a base somewhere if that is possible.

Some helpful information you might want to add:
What type of scholarship you are on, what branch specifically are you associated with, what type of clerkship are you looking to do - any particular type of dentistry/procedures you are hoping to observe, where are you located?

Typically this information is found in your HPSP handbook. They are usually very helpful.
