What are some good questions or things to do when asking for letters of rec? The first thing I would ask to someone who knows me well is "I'll be applying to medical schools this summer, and I feel like I've gotten to know you well. Would you feel comfortable writing me a great LOR?" All of them gladly said Sure.

I did give them a copy of my resume, to those who said it would help.

One of my friends wrote a 6 page autobiography and gave it to all his refrences. Are there better things to do/ask?

I'm sure this probably was asked plenty of times here, so if there is a link, that would be great.

Hi

I think you are doing your best. Knowing how and whom to ask for a LOR is very important, and you're also supplying them with what they need to do that.

You could also get their secretary's name/# so you can call in 4-6 weeks if you haven't received it. It is also useful to give them a deadline, like "I would need this for my application, and the deadline for that is XX/xx, I would appreciate if I could have it by then...." or something like that.

good luck

What you are doing sounds fine. Just make sure that the LOR will be strong. Also, some professors may want a copy of your personal statement.

Personal statement... yeah, =) It's in the process of being developed =(

I gave my LOR writers my entire aamcas app. It had all pertenent info. Don't forget to have you LOR writers include your SS # and/or your aamcas ID. A lot of schools want that.

That's a great idea that I completely missed. Since my premed committee is handling sending the letters, maybe they can do something to add it. Just a thought.
