I hope someone will help me on this:
before go asking for LoRs, should I request official transcripts from the registrar, just for the sake of appropriateness, or just print some out myself and give it to the recommenders?

I would just print out an unofficial copy and give it to them. Most of the letter writers I've asked don't even want the transcript, just make sure you give them an updated resume and a personal statement if you've done one already.

I agree with what this poster said about the unofficial transcript.

While it's nice for your LOR writers to comment briefly on your school performance, I think it's more important that write positively about your personal attributes. Adcoms will have your self-explanatory GPA/MCAT in front of them. Use valuable LOR space to get across the intangible qualities that will make you a good doctor.

unofficial is good. when i asked for LORs, I didn't even give them transcripts.. just asked them and gave them the paper to mail in with it that says i'm not going to see it so they could mail it in to the letter service i subscribed to.

I gave them an updated resume and my personal statement. For a couple I sat down and talked with them about what I was doing between then and starting school, since for some, especially the professors, it had been a couple of semesters since I had updated them on my life 🙂

Yea there really is no need to get an official transcript. Youd just be wasting money on the processing fees. Just get an unofficial one.

So if I don't submit my transcript to them, it's okay? I'm kind of embarrassed to submit a couple bad grades on my transcript, and I don't want them to see them...

None of my letter writers asked for my transcripts 😳
