OK, so an educated guess here would be fine, since most of you are MD's and I think you do it a little differently.

For us (Clinical Psychology) the fourth year ends and there is a lag time from end of June to early August when we attend OBLC en route to internship. Internship begins in early October.

I currently hold the rank of 2LT but I am wondering when I officially become a CPT? As far as I can tell, it is technically at the one year anniversary of my 2LT DOR. That would be 05MAY08. Not that it matters until I start getting active duty pay, but just wondering if anyone knows for sure.

Thanks.

Edit--As if it needed to be said, my recruiter doesn't know. Duh.

I love it when I post a question that no one has the answer to. It means I am not an idiot. 🙂

Give it a little more time than 3 hours and 8 minutes? 😀 And unfortunately I'm just padding my post count, I definitely have no clue.

Usually the day you graduate. Sometimes the day after.

I figure it is the day you sign oath of office for O-3.
Those papers should be available to you as soon as you graduate, but your recruiter is probably the best person to set that up. There were folks in my intern class who didn't have their oath prepared as of the first day of internship, and they were "frocked" until their papers came through.

Yeah I kind of figured it would be different. Clinical Psychologists are still students until AFTER internship, (5th year and internship are the same thing) but all the interns are CPT's. I guess I will find out when I find out.

Should be day you graduate. You are given 4 years of entry grade credit for your degree. So the day you graduate you have 4 years and that equals Captain.

I guess it's not clear what I am trying to say.

For MD's, "graduate" happens before internship. (Four years medical school=MD, THEN Internship) In that sense an MD internship is "postdoctoral." Our internship is "predoctoroal" and therefore we do not "graduate" until the end of the internship (assuming your dissertation is complete). Internship is considered your 5th year of the program. You do not have your PhD until all of the hours of internship are completed and verified by the school.

All of the clinical psychology, PREDOCTORAL interns are 0-3's, so I am wondering when do clinical psycholgist interns (who are not dr's yet) get to pin it on. It looks to me like they do it right before OBLC, (because they all wear it there as well) which for us occurs during the summer right before the internship starts. It matters to me because my recruiter told me my swear in date effects my 0-3 date of rank, which effects pay and retirement down the line.

In that sense, I would think that you get CPT after internship. Do you have a copy of your contract?

In response to below: Sorry, skimmed and missed that point. If all interns are O3's then I don't see why they'd overlook you...

Anyway, I guess I will just get it when I get it.
