Applying in early June as a CA resident. When do I need to have my LORs uploaded to Interfolio by? Do I need them for the primary AMCAS application, or for secondaries? Also, when am I supposed to send my transcripts in? Thanks

Most schools want letters with secondaries. You'll want to get your transcripts in as soon as possible.

Thanks for the reply and being helpful in to both of my inquiries so far on SDN. When you say ASAP, does that mean that I should send my transcripts to AAMC well ahead of my application if I can?

It shouldn't matter as long as they are in with your primary.

The application is different this year than it was when I applied two years ago... it seems letters are attached with your primary, rather than sent individually to different schools. At least, that was my impression looking at the application a few days ago.

Yes. You should print out and hand a transcript request to your schools right now. Get them in before you submit your application, if possible. Obviously, if you're still in school, you should request that they hold the transcript until grades are posted, but otherwise, you should get them in now.

you can send your transcripts and LORs to amcas today if you wanted. LORs can wait as they are part of the secondaries but transcripts you should send today if possible. Its not going to kill you if you dont send them today or if you wanted to wait for spring grades. THe main point is that you want to get them in as soon as humanly possible to speed up your verification. Verifiying your grades can take a long time and delay your application if they are not in. I would at least try to make sure they are sent in by the end of june at the latest.

OK the advice to send the transcript ASAP is well taken. Should I make the request directly to my undergrad institution's registrar's office and give them the address on the AMCAS transcript request form, or should I mail in the AMCAS request form itself?

As long as you've listed your Student ID number on your AMCAS application (as an 'other' ID), you shouldn't need to send in the actual form. I'm going to for two of my schools because one doesn't have an online request form, and the other has to be requested special because otherwise only half my courses will get verified.

Do we have to have this spring's grades in? Might won't come out until June...

Well, you won't get entirely verified if you don't have them.

Thats not true you dont have to have your spring grades on there to be verified. That or ive been lied to many times@@

I am slightly confused.

With the new AMCAS LOR service, do/should we have LORs in to AMCAS earlier? i.e. with the primary? Or can they be gotten by the AMCAS during secondaries and then sent out?

And, if anyone knows, will the MD/PhD programs be mainly taking part in the new AMCAS LOR service? Getting the LORs to the right place for the MD/PhD programs is so flippin mixed up... One place wants their med school to take care of it. Another has to have them sent directly to the MD/PhD committee. Some need them sent to both..... :scared:

I said entirely verified. Your grades from the spring semester won't be included in your GPA at all if they aren't on your transcript, and schools will likely be curious about that.

Can anyone please tell me how the new LOR system works? What if you're getting a committee letter and you've waived your right to see that letter? How exactly does one get their committee letter on the application through this new system???

The committee/ your school will send the letter to AMCAS, then AMCAS will forward the letter to schools you designate who are participating in the LOR pilot. For the very small % of schools who will not use the AMCAS lor pilot, your school/committe/interfolio or w/e you use will have to send them individually to the schools.

thank you!! Is interfolio an AAMC affiliated service/program? How does one register?

Its like 30 bucks and they hold onto your LORs for 3 years or something. Its not affiliated its just a common LOR service that people use.

Does this impact when your letters need to be in to AMCAS? Does AMCAS send them out after the school offers a secondary or are they now part of the primary application?

Thats one thing im not 100% sure on, im going to call amcas in the morning about this, if no one answer you by then just send me a pm and ill tell you what they said.

You send them to AMCAS between now and secondary apps. AMCAS stores them electronically--just like Interfolio/VE--and when schools who are participating in the pilot want to read them for your secondary, they log in and download them (just like with Interfolio/VE).

can you just have your letters sent to your Interfolio account? and then have them send it to AMCAS? that way you are storing them in one place and just distributing them from that one repository?

You would only do that if there are schools on your list that do not participate in the pilot program. But yes, you can do it.

Eh, I'm doing it through interfolio because that's what my professors are familiar with. I'd rather the burden be on me to get them to AMCAS than to try to direct my professors to send them there. Plus, I already have an account and it's still good for another 4 years, I think. Since I'm not sure what schools I'm applying to, this also means I don't have to worry about getting my professors to send them to a second place in the event that I choose to apply to a school that doesn't participate.

Smart! Go for it then. I think nearly all schools are enrolled in the pilot program this year, though. Stanford sticks out in my head as one that is not.

Just to double make sure.

Your primary will be verified even if you don't have your LORs submitted right? You just need the freaking transcript in, right?

Yes. And you still have a month before you can even submit, so take a couple deep breaths. Stuff will likely happen between now and then.

Regarding the Letter Packet. I know that I can send a group of letters from the UCLA LOR service to AMCAS all at once, like 5 letters all together. But, I know that some schools want less letters and different kinds of letter. I am under the impression that if I only have the Letter Packet sent to AMCAS I will only be able to submit ALL 5 LETTERS TOGETHER instead of being able to select which ones I want. Does anyone have the solution to this? Should I ask UCLA LOR to send each letter in a different envelope so that I make 5 different letter entries on AMCAS and then can select specific letters for each school? THANKS! 😱

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. In this case, you need to have your committee send each letter separately. Do not have it sent in as a packet.

What a waste. I wish they would have an option for you to send all your letters at once but not have them combined. That way we could save some money...:[

All 36 schools I'm applying to says nothing about MAX 5 letters. You should do the same and check to see.

I'm going to send in 5 letters as a "packet" and make life easier for everyone.
