Many schools have an allowance for a personal computer for their first year. Ours is $2800.

Does anyone know how this is usually disbursed? - Like, do we get this all at once our first month or is it divided monthly or something?

thanks.

$2800 for a computer, it better come with 1 TB of pre loaded adult movies..

😆 Or at least some good lotion and a sturdy gym sock... You know... for your deposits.

It's a loan adjustment... You price out the computer, print out the quote, and bring it to the Financial Aid office. Once they approve it, you'll get a loan bump equal to the amount they approve (my school it's no more than $2200). Keep in mind, though, that it's a one-time deal, so choose wisely. Unless your rig is completely falling apart, try to make it last another 2 years or so (buy more RAM, new HD, etc).

So every school does this then? They basically give you an extra subsidized loan for computers? Something doesn't sound right here.

It will probably disperse with the rest of your loan money. The COA includes everything you need to attend medical school. The factor in how much it costs to live in your area, transportation, textbooks, test fees and yes computers. My school bought computers for us, handed them to us at orientation and then charged our account for it to be taken out of our finaid!

It's not an extra subsidized loan. If you're already over the limit for subsidized loans, you get an unsubsidized. If you're into Grad Plus territory, that's what you get. It's just an increase in your COA for the year.
