I work part time right now and am debating when i should quit. At this point i am wondering if the few thousand i might make over the summer would mean anything since im gonna be taking out a $200,000 loan anyways. When are you guys quitting?

Probably between July 1st and July 15th. We are about to buy a house so I don't think we can swing me being paycheck-less for long before I get my loans.

July 28th...like a week before I leave. Sux, but it's $ in my pocket.

I plan on staying on payroll until the end of July.

I just ran out of money since I had to quit my job early cause this quarter my classes just didn't allow me the time.... I could find another job, but who would hire me just to work 3 months?

+1. bills to pay. I have lots of vacation days saved up though! However probably too much work to do to justify taking them...

August 12th. PTO will carry me another two weeks. I enjoy my job so much, def feels like I've been on vacay for the last 3 years.

I initially planned on stopping mid June but I feel like I want more time so maybe I'll take all of June off.

planning on mid-late June here, that way I still get the whole month of July off to relax....

Flying to England July 1st. I'll be quitting the day before, cashing out my PTO and getting my last paycheck. Only ****ty part is going to be losing my health insurance.

I'm quitting next monday, like you said the dent that the money could potentially make is minuscule compared to the debt we are about to take on. I was going to do research this summer, but for some reason the senior-itis really kicked in last week and i suddenly wanted to do nothing for the first time in 7 or so summers. Hell yes to a summer free and full of potential, of course im sure those of us taking summer off will be bored well before school starts.

I promised my PI that I would stay on until the last week of July. Right after that, I saw that orientation for my school probably starts the second week of August... I meant to give myself more than one week to goof off and move, but at least I'm just moving to a different part of LA.

I quit one of my jobs already. I'm now just teaching until the end of May...counting down the days 😎

I actually quit late January. I needed to take a semester of Orgo prerequisite, and unfortunately my full time job doesn't allow me to take a 3 hour lunch break every day.

It's actually kind of a nice precursor to medical school. Just relax and do pretty much anything I want in the spring and summer before I have to start working my butt off.

July 1st. I'm already planning out my last days of true freedom...

already did since january. my part time job, im going to keep until i start.

End of May though I may have another part-time thing lined up that allows me to work from home.

Also, HBSlim- as much as I like your avatar, Clutterbuck is no fighter :/

I have bills to pay, too. 🙁 My school starts early on July 25th but I want a week off before school starts so I will quit working on July 15th.

I am counting the days....

Quitting mid-late June. I want $, but at the same time, the idea of 4-6 weeks of zero responsibility sounds so appealing...

First off, very glad to see another hockey fan here. Second, that is true but seeing as he has 300+ hits this season I'm ok with it🙂

Thinking of going part time mid-May, or just quitting altogether. Looking forward to it 😀

Either the Friday before orientation or two weeks before. It all depends on if I end up being able to afford the airfare to France.

Hi, coworker!

June 24 - last day
June 27 to July 2 - tentative vacation
July 7 - move
July 13 to 15 - present at conference (still work related, despite having left)
July 31 - white coat ceremony
August 1 - orientation

BOOM!

My last day will be June 30th. Orientation starts August 1 but my fiance and I need some time to adjust to the marriage and the out of state move.

July 22. But two weeks of july prior to that will be vacation and then I have two weeks after that before school stuff starts.

i'm probably quitting late june/early july (school starts early august)...that way, i have a chance to go home for a bit before i move across the country, again.

Same here, I'm quitting end of July, so I'll get 6 days off before school starts. I like my job.... But I would've loved to get a longer break... Too bad there's bills and credit card debt (from the application process of course) to pay 🙁.

I like my job, but I'm really ready to start the next phase of my life already!!! Been working here since I graduated back in 2009. I miss school!!

I can't make any plans yet since there are three possible schools I could be in in August. 😕 I think I'm sort of in denial until at least late May. It's expected that I'm "leaving at the end of summer" but I don't know where/what/how. ERrgghh.

On another note, let's say I have 15 days of vacation left. Can I take 3 weeks off with my paid vacation and then quit right after the days are up? Is that shady? How do I take full advantage of my leftover PTO?

At my job, you can cash out your vacation days when you're quitting, but not sick days. You might want to check with HR though.

Work it out with your manager/HR. Your manager primarily cares about when's your last day of actual work, but that may or may not coincide with when you get removed from payroll. It's also dependent on your HR policies. For example, where I am, you earn vacation days as you go through the year, so if you've worked half a year, you've earned half of the vacation days you're eligible for.

Anyway, no, not shady in my experience.

A lot of times, once you give them a formal letter of resignation (two weeks notice), you're not allowed to take PTO. But generally they let you sell it back and get paid for it despite not 'using' it in the traditional sense.

Probably quitting at the end of May. Any money that I would make after that would kind of be a drop in the bucket in terms of all the debt I'm going to have.

quitting mid-May, doing a 6 wk summer program, then 3 weeks of summer debauchery before school starts.

What? 😕 I didn't know you could do that! Maybe it's not at every job. At my job, my boss has me using up my vacation days even though I'm working because for some reason, the grant gets more money back for vacation days (I work at a research lab). But then he lets me take vacation whenever (within reason). I'm going to look into this now lol.

Any money you make now is debt you won't have later. Every little bit helps, and you'll be thanking yourself for it a few years down the road.

Im quitting in June to spend time with family/travel. leaving for school in july.

Wow... just found out I could cash out my any leftover vacation days at then end of my employment... I feel gypped! 😡 I "used up" all my vacation days so money would go towards the grants. But I really didn't use them all!

Last day of work is next week. Then its travel/vegetating time!

As a teacher, my job quits for me. 🙂 June 10th is the last day of school, but being an AP Chem teacher, my year basically ends May 2nd. The rest is just fun labs and field trips to Disney World. 😎

I miss those days in high school! 🙁

I have no plans to quit my part-time job. As for my league, probably sometime late July/early August--exact date depends on which school I attend. Just inked a new contract to get out earlier... bye-bye down payment on a house, hello landlord 🙁

For everyone complaining about bills, you'll make a horrible doctor for not having the foresight and discipline to save the needed money beforehand.

For everyone quitting early, you'll make a horrible doctor for your despicable, deplorable work ethic.

BTW, my work ethic is telling me to quit on June 10th.

I've been saving my PTO for a while now for my macbook pro/air fund 😀

damn you... my PTO vanishes as quickly as I accumulate it. Getting flexed off in the hospital for low census sucks.

My classes start the end of July. My last day will be June 10th. Need some time to scope out the area I am moving to. Also have some concerts to go to (DMB and then Phish).

I know you're just messing around, but if I didn't have daycare to pay for and we weren't about to buy a house, I'd probably be quitting in the next few weeks, if I wasn't gone already. 🙂

quitting on same day too
