Hello everyone,
Is there a cutoff point at which you feel it is too late to
interview? I know that applicants and programs can
start submitting their ROL on January 15, quotas
must be in by January 31, and final ROL deadline is
February 22.
Thus, do you think that interviewing after January
15 is a bad idea, i.e. programs have already made
up their mind?

Thanks,
M

If they offer you an interview, it is never too late. They might have their mind made up about everybody else they interviewed already but I guarantee you can still get yourself a spot if you impress them.

i agree. programs don't interview people "for fun" or just to waste your and their time. if they are still interviewing, you still have a chance.

I've spoken to a couple Program Manager who said they got so many applications last year that they stopped accepting applications, because all their interview spots filled up.

monitor, if you apply too late (which is what i think you're talking about) you may not get an interview because they may not even look at your app. but, if you are offered an interview, this means they have downloaded and looked at your app and you still have a chance. that's what we're talking about.

Most of my interviews are during the last two weeks in January for personal reasons. Am I worried? Not really. I realize that they will have seen a lot of applicants, which will give me more incentive to shine.

An excellent applicant is an excellent applicant no matter what time they show up. Programs can always adjust their ranking order. Yeah, they will have a rough draft, but until the last interviewer has said his final word, the jury is still out and lists can be revised.

I'm optimistic that by interviewing later, I'll make more of an impression to the committee. But it does cut it close in terms of second looks and ROL. In the end, it probably makes little difference when a person interviews. No amount of time will change a bad applicant into a good one.

I interviewed and matched at a top program in late January last year. If they offer the date, you will be given equal consideration...maybe better to go late as you have a more recent impression when the final cut is made.
