hi guys

i just took my mcat on july 18th, so before that i kinda pushed the application aside. my goal was to get it in by the end of this week at latest

i have almost everything ready. expect that i asked a doctor to help me read my PS, but she cannot get to it until next wk. =(

so, im trying to decide if i should wait for her feedback of just turn in my app sometime this week.

when is it finally considered late to be submitting your application?

I took it that day too. We will not be considered late, especially if we have our AMCAS done and secondaries ready to go.

So your MCAT won't be available Until August 15th or so anyway. Since schools won't really look at you until then, it won't make a difference whether submit now or next week, since your MCAT score will the last part in most likely.

I wouldn't worry about whether your late or not, you can't go back in time. Super gunners already have several secondaries completed by now, and would call you way late. Just prioritize your secondaries ahead of school/work when they start rolling in, or better yet, start working on them now.

You're ok... promise.

The earlier you submit your primary app, the earlier you get verified, so you won't be waiting around for verification... and at the rate they're getting verified, you'll get your MCAT score before then. (The later you apply the longer it takes to get your app verified)

My suggestion is to submit your primary app to your lowest tier school ASAP. Then after you get your MCAT score, you can gauge where else to apply. Besides, most upper tier schools won't send you a secondary or really look at your app until you're verified...

Good luck!

this totally worries me too. i'm going to be attending this honduras medical mission trip that i think would enhance my personal statement (especially since my GPA is pretty low and my MCAT is solid but not super competitive) from aug. 4-11, but i don't know if i should submit my primary now or until after the 11th..

p.s. you can work on secondaries now?! how does that work..?? (apologies for the noob question.)

Search for the questions on here and just work on them.

HINT: You can submit now (only choose one school, and make sure that school does not look at apps until verified), and write your experiences as if the 11th has already happened. You won't be verified until after the 11th anyway, and when you're verified you can tack on the rest of your schools.

imho, forget adding the experiences to your PS.

uh how can you write about the experiences if you haven't had them yet, i do not agree with the above poster

Good call.

Your options are:
1) stop thinking about it and just push through everything.
2) wait 'til next year to apply.

Your position on the spectrum early-late makes no difference. You either apply now or next year. The sooner you have everything done in a cycle the better.

Since in most cases you won't officially get secondaries until after your MCAT scores come back, you should browse SDN and start writing up secondaries using the prompts in the secondary threads that are floating around. You'll be able to turn those secondaries around in less than 1-day... meaning that you might actually be able to submit them all mid-late August. I think that might make you mid-pack? I'm not sure, though. I just know that submitting mid-late September is late.

Having most of your secondaries complete by now is hardly gunner status. Being prepared is a better term.

The way I look at it is that you've spent at least three years preparing for this procedure. You've put in thousands of hours studying, researching, volunteering, etc. The primary comes out a month before you can submit, and about seven weeks before schools would even receive it. What excuse is there to not have a bunch of secondaries completed at this point?

I agree.

However, we shouldn't wreck OP's psyche and make him freak out.

OP, if you write up all your secondaries right now, you'll be able to turn them around mid/late August when you actually get them. You'll probably be midpack.

Oh, I agree. I would think late would be turning in secondaries in September. There's no reason why you can't do them now since most are out.
