Would it matter if you have a late step 2 ck take and not have a score in by Sep 15? Or is there no point in taking step 2 ck late(i.e late aug/early sep)?

I think there is some point, but sept 15 isn't a cutoff for us or MD's. It seems in my discussions with former grads taking step II only isn't actually that helpful. But some have posted otherwise here.

I think it makes less of a difference the further into interview season you go.

I tried looking through the forums, but seem to not get an answer. Lots of posts say that its better to take it late if you think youll score lower than your step 1.

If you have Step 1, later is fine. I actually strategically took it early Sept so I had the option not submit if it was worse.

If you don't have Step 1, I'd try to have it in by Sept 15, but as long as it's in by Oct 1 (MSPE time) or mid Oct it should be fine. Because most places won't look at your app before that.

Yes it is. Step 2 scores should be uploaded by Sept 15. Otherwise some programs will view your application as "incomplete" which will negatively affect your interview chances. Not saying this is the case everywhere, but some class of 19 relayed to me they missed out on interviews because of this.

Except we are DO's and Step 2 is optional for us. Level 2 should be in for the reason you listed tho, and Step 2 certainly wouldn't hurt. If someone is an actual USMD, then it doesn't matter as much when step 2 is in cause you are already more desirable.

So it's basically like a comlex PE thing, as long as you pass. I just don't understand this strategy because what is the point of doing well on step 2, if they cant even see your score until later? If they invite you to interview, doesnt that mean they already like you and whatever you get on step 2 doesnt matter?

It can help you come rank time tho.
