TL: DR - Any "reason" or competitive advantage to submit before all documents processed/received? Submit partial now vs complete @ mid/end of July-ish .
Questions in bold if you want to skip through. (2 total)
This may APPEAR to be a question answered in previous thread, but I have a personal/specific "twist" on it. Also, I have read & studied the 2015 app cycle timeline sticky, and many of the threads similar to the following post.
The Facts:
Transcript mailed 6/23 (not yet processed). I should've sent earlier.
DAT (taken on June 18th) scores already sent out.
1 LOE sent to AADSAS, I am waiting to receive other 3.
Personal statement written and thoroughly reviewed by myself and others, feel great about it.
Post-Pac student, undergrad in accounting and I have work experience as an auditor. Currently age = 25.
Question:
I know that when sending in a "partial" application, many schools won't look at it until it is complete, and that when new materials are received, they will be mailed out. Should I go ahead and submit my app without the transcript processed and LOE's received? Again, I KNOW schools may/may not look at my app yet, but is there any advantage to going ahead and having the info I do have, sent to schools? Or do you think it would be the same as waiting until I have 100% of my info? Or is there one piece of info I should wait for to submit, such as the transcript?
-I'm thinking that since I have so much info I'm using to "excuse/cover up" my GPA, I should wait and send all at once. Seeing only my GPA may make schools less likely to send me a coveted interview invite. But I'm not sure, and it's why I'm asking you guys.
Lastly, I haven't really researched much on this, but is there any credence given towards "legacy" applicants? My uncle went to GRU and now operates a large practice, and GRU is my #1 school for residency reasons. I will have 2 LOE's from successful GRU grads. The orthodontist giving me a LOE used to be part time instructor/served on admissions board at GRU (but no longer, unfortunately, ha).
I've thoroughly researched my schools, and this isn't the point of my post, but I plan on applying to:
GRU
USC (cali)
USC (charleston)
NYU
BU
Arizona
Loma Linda (not a LDS church member, but might as well try)
UNLV
U of Louisville
Western U
Tufts
NOVA
LECOM
--------Maybe throwing out an app to a "reach" school or two such as Alabama, Minnesota, LSU, and Tennessee. Although most of my schools are "reaches" for me, ha. (see stats)
-------I am targeting schools w/the lowest avg GPA's (besides Howard and Meharry, honestly b/c I am caucasian and don't think my chances are high based on demographical stats of these 2 schools. I may throw an app at Meharry just for kicks. Not speaking down on these dental programs AT ALL, just calculating my chances based on concrete facts.)
------Also targeting schools with high out of state to instate accepted student ratios. GRU is my only in-state school.
Applying with these stats:
Quantitative:
GPA: 3.1 sciGPA: 3.25 (no c's, just mostly B's w/some A's)......DAT: 20AA, 17 PAT (Good: orgo 22, reading comp 25. Decent: Sci Avg = 19 Bad: PAT = 17)
Qualitative:
-Great (in my opinion) LOE's from ex-boss (I am a previous accountant), Orgo teacher, uncle (dentist I shadowed), and my past orthodontist who is also a long time family friend.
-As mentioned above, good personal statement. I think it is great, was reviewed by the family wordsmith (aunt = lawyer).
-Consistent history of volunteer efforts. (unicef involvement, teaching disabled kids ice hockey, and doing work for a non-profit supported by previous employer).
-Multiple dean's list (i know some people here think it is irrelevant). But one F from an accounting class 4 yrs ago (repeated and got A+).
-Accounting as undergrad (Said I would have a "head start" in business side of practice operation).
-Diverse extracurriculars: guitar player for 6+ yrs, university club hockey team, freshman honor society, volunteer stuff mentioned earlier.
-Not really "asking" for chances, but feel free to provide opinions!!! I appreciate honesty. I am well aware that I am starting with a disadvantage to begin with (gpa), but all I need is to snag 1 or 2 interviews and I like my chances. Not gloating, I just know my strengths and weaknesses, and I'm pretty good with face to face interviews. Hoping to make up for my gpa with my DAT (despite low PAT, ran out of time!! lol), LOE's, statement, and extracurriculars/volunteer info.
-That's all folks. Sorry for the long winded post, and I know the community frowns upon repeat-threads, But I thought mine was a bit different, and I know we all have the application jitters. Thank you for letting me get mine "out".
