General Admissions & OTCAS When should I apply?

So, I am only applying to programs that do not have rolling admissions and where the application is due in January, February, and March. I am leaning towards delaying submission until around December. The reason I am delaying my application is because I want to develop a better relationship with the faculty members I am doing research with before asking for a letter of rec. Would applying this late harm my chances?
