Alright,

I will find out on Feb 1st whether I got in to my #1 school. (Texas) I currently have, (and hopefully will have more), options to interview at other schools that I would be very interested in going if I didn't get into my #1.

So, should I schedule my interviews for after the Feb 1st date so I will be able to cancel them just in case I get into my #1? Will this hurt my chances at the other schools badly?

Summary: How much better is interviewing in mid-late January compared to mid Febuary?

Thanks

I had the choice of interviewing anywhere from beginning of Feb to late Feb with OHSU and I just locked in for late Feb for the exact same reason you have. I'm holding out for U Wash.

I don't know for sure but i would schedule them for after feb 1st...why take the time of expense if you know wher eyou want to go. I doubt waiting a few weeks will effect your chances unless they are rollling decisions. Most schools hold spots for late interviewees and if they are unsure of whether to accept someone or not they will put them on hold until they see who else is in the applicant pool. Therefore I think late interviews are built into the system.

That being said, I wish I knew where I really wanted to go and perhaps save myself some time and money if by chance I got into my top choice. best of luck to you.

I agree with what other people are saying and do not think that a few weeks will not make much of a difference. However, I really think that when you call the schools to schedule your interview, you should ask them if there are likely still going to be open spots in mid-February. Don't tell them (of course) that they are not your #1 choice. You can say something general like, "It would be most convenient for me to interview in mid-February, but I am concerned that blah blah. ." The person scheduling your interview will not really care about your particular reasons. I did this for convenience's sake for a couple of schools (one of my top choices even!) and was reassured that interviewing later would not be a problem, and that there most definitely would be open spots. One of the schools I applied to, however, tends to fill up quickly, and you are basically auditioning for a spot on the waitlist if you interview later in the cycle. So every school is different, and you should find out.

Hope that helps. And I hope you get into your #1! :luck: 😉
