Hi everyone.

I'm a junior In college. I'm looking to go to a college of osteopathic medicine and I'm looking to apply for next year's cycle (2017).

Here is my problem.

Early on in college I messed around a little too much and ended up failing a zoology class. I'm retaking this class in the fall of 2016 along with some other classes to raise my science and overall GPA.

My question is this. Should I submit my application early with a poor cumalitve and science GPA or should I wait until my grades are posted in December to submit my application late but with higher GPA's?

I'm very nervous that if I apply early, I won't be considered because of my grades but I'm also worried that if I wait, there won't be many spots left for me.

Please help. Thanks to everyone.

What are your stats. What is your MCAT.

What are your stats. What is your MCAT.

I am taking the MCAT this summer.

My GPA at the end of this semester will be as follows
Science GPA 2.94
Cumalitve GPA 3.37

After the fall semester (assuming I do as well as I plan)
Science GPA 3.40 (goes up significant because of retaken class)
Cumalitve GPA 3.48

Well I guess my main question is
Would December or early January be too late? Would I still get interview offers?

Depends on your mcat. Usually December is the by when you want to get your primary in but you need to wait for those last grades.

You have a couple scenarios:

1.) higher mcat (505+) and then you can apply broadly to get in somewhere. Usually a newer school.

2.) higher mcat and wait for the next cycle and get into a school That is more established

3.) lower of the competitive mcat (500-502) where you need to wait for the next cycle because it's too late for this grades

Wait to apply, you will have a much higher success rate with a 3.4 GPA. Even though the application will be a little late, schools still interview well into March! Obviously the earlier the better, but it would be problematic to apply with the low GPA.

Submitting your application early in the cycle is best, as it gives you a better shot. I think if you do well on the MCAT, you've got a good chance of at least getting an interview. My situation was similar; I only had a 3.18 cgpa - had a 2.7 after my sophomore year, then I worked my ass off; my science gpa was a 3.5. My MCAT was a 25 - took it two years ago. Although I did go get a Masters Degree; 3.9 GPA....I didn't turn in my primary until January 6th; I wasn't verified until the end of January; received two secondaries back - from the only two schools I applied to - in mid February. Got interviews at both...Point is, there is always hope...Plus, schools like to see in upward trend in GPA...Good luck!
