When should we expect to receive interview invites or rejections after submitting secondaries?

Hi,

I was just wondering with average stats: GPA ~3.4 and low 500s MCAT. The standard ECs including shadowing DO. When do we expect interview invites or rejections after submitting secondaries? Do they show up 1-2 weeks afterwards or if we don't get them by the 3rd week, is it game over for that school? Do we wait until May to get our rejections? Any help for knowledgeable people would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

You wait until they come. I got my first II within a month of applying, I got my most recent II 5 months after applying. I’ve had 4 rejections and the rest has been silence

Thanks for sharing. I can't help but feel that if we are unable to get them immediately (within a few weeks); we are not terribly interesting to them. Congrats on the acceptance and being nontrad. Do you mind sharing your GPA and MCAT?

When did you apply?

sGPA: 3.7, cGPA:3.5, MCAT 506

I applied in December. Thanks for sharing stats.
That’s part of your problem. Admissions are rolling for most schools. Applying in December is very late, if I couldn’t get the secondary done by Sept 1, I didn’t submit it. So you’ll just have to wait and see, but if you reapply you need to get your primary application done in June and your secondaries ad quickly as you can after getting them.

There is no metric when, for any school, especially if you decided to submit in December. With your stats, and submitting this late, I wish you the best.

I applied early in the cycle and was complete sometime in July. I received all of my interviews in August and September and haven't heard from anyone since. It's hard to say when schools started evaluating applications. I know I was in the first interview group at 2-3 schools, but I was in a much later interview group for the schools I heard back from in September. It's hard to determine how each school goes about the interview process, but I can assure you that they take either the most qualified (academically) or most interesting (story wise, but still academically competent) students early in the cycle. This means that you could be passed over or placed in a review later pile after they work through all the high caliber students. I wouldn't count yourself out yet, but also be realistic... I'd guess 3/4 or more of the interviews have been extended. Start improving your application for May and work towards plan B.

Patience is a virtue; the need for instant gratification is not.

Schools stratify the apps as they come in and don't send out secondaries or IIs merely in chronological order.

Secondaries are often a tax on the hopelessly naïve, if not pathologically optimistic.

You might very well be rejected and never hear from any school. The best way to deal with this is to consider yourself rejected until you get that Accept email in your Inbox.

On the plus side, you might get an II tomorrow, or in March.

Thanks Goro! I am hoping for the II soon from several schools. If anything, this process has been deeply humbling if not humiliating. If only we had a few points higher on the MCAT, schools would treat us completely differently. Thanks for your candid and clear advice. You are doing a lot of good. :)
