Currently i have finished the first chemistry out of three, there is A, B, and C. Our school goes by the quarter system, what i am concerning is that when i take the next sequence Chem in JC (semester system), there's only part A, and B. Is it okay to take the class in JC? I am in a hurry, cause i am taking other classes for my major as well for the summer session in University. Does anyone have done this before?

Thanks for any inputs. Have a nice day.

I think you should be fine as long as they meet all the requirements. A friend of mine doing the same thing, taking prerequiste at JC and her major classes at the Uni.

I took all but one of my pre-req's at a CC. For what it's worth.

Thanks for all the inputs.

My question was how it will work if i take First Chemistry A (out of A,B, and C) in a quarter system. However if i take classes in a JC, there's only part A and B. Is this clear?

This goes same for Biology, there's Bio A, bio B, and bio C classes in my university, and i have finished two out of three. But, if i want to take in JC, there's only two classes ( A and B) since it goes by semester.

I hope this makes clear.
Thanks guys~ Have a nice day~

I'm going to a CC too, and i get what you're saying. Everything should be fine as long as you finish the sequence at ONE school. So, for example, if you start chemistry at your CC, finish all of them there. It would be difficult if you take A at a CC and then finish the rest at a university, b/c the university wouldn't pick up right where the CC ended.

Since you started A already, the best thing to do is finish B and C at that JC also.

Hopefully that helps,

Hey, I'm a freshman(undergrad) and I had the same problem when I tried to file my application for summer courses just a few weeks ago. My school has a semester system (A and B), but the CC I was trying to take courses had quarter system(A,B and C). I emailed the department head with course description and syllabus from the CC, and he said I would have to take A and B in order to get an A credit in my school and B & C to get the second half of the course credit. Does this make sense?
I think it depends on the school since different schools cover different topics at different times, so why don't you go to the department and ask to make sure?

hope this helped

The semester system will cover more materials for part A. Since you've completed part A in a quarter system, there will be some topics that you will miss if you take part B in a semester system (JC).

The important thing is the total hours towards the dental pre-req's. You just have to convert the quarter hours to semester and vice versa. Most schools will require you to have 8 semester hours or 12 quarter hours. If you took part A in a quarter system it's probably 4 or 5 quarter hrs? that will convert to (4 X 0.667) 2.668 or (5 X 0.667) 3.335 semester hrs. You will end up loosing if you don't complete the whole series in a semester or a quarter system.

My advise is to complete everything in one school unless they're both in the same system (quarter or semester hrs). If you combine them, you will not have enough credits towards the pre-reqs, hope this make sense. 🙂

Thanks alot for the help guys!

Hey iballer, so you are saying that if i have over 8 semester hours, then this is okay right? Because i have taken the first Chemistry and, it was 5 units, which means it will be 3.335. If i take Part B which is normally 5 units in a CC, then that will do it. Right?

Thanks. Have a nice day~

Correct, if the total is 8 semester hrs or over you're good to go. Check the requirements at the dental school you're planning to apply to. Like I posted previously most schools require 8 semester or 12 qtr hrs. I'll be taking Organic Chem this summer at a state university and they are on a quarter system. Orgo I & II are 6 quarter hrs each and still equates to 8 semester hrs.
