when the in-service exam results out

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The scores usually come out the first or second week of January. There was talk this year of the scores being released electronically and hence getting released 2-3 weeks earlier, but apparently that will not be happening this year, probably next.

what's up with these in service exams anyway? do they actually matter? i've heard that some programs don't even have them and some are alos having them in the spring. I have also heard that there are no real grades on the things and are just another gauge of how well you do on multiple choice tests. are you just tested on your specialty or is it like another board exam? how long are the tests (questions, hours to complete, etc)? do you take one each residency year? whoever knows let 'er rip!

They are a good tool to let you know where you stand.
nobody can( should) use or abuse them.
its only between you and your program.

it also gives you an idea what you have beendoing in the last 1-3 years.
In my pgy1 I actually scored a 97 percentile
in my second year I actually went down to 89 percentile- obviously I could'nt have gotten worse- it only means that the quality of the competation as improved significcantly.
see?

Does anyone know how the in-service scores correlate with the real boards??

When you get the results of your intraining exam, you get a lot of special charts and graphs and statistics. When I got my peds scores back, it came with a statistic chart that correlated your score, your level of training, and the percentage of people with those same scores that passed their boards on their first try. So it's not perfect, but it can be used as a gauge to say, you know all the people that scored in the 3rd percentile of the exam in their PGY-3 year seem to have a lot harder time passing their boards than people who score in the 75th percentile.

I received my scores yesterday

I am an IM resident who appeared for the in training exam in October 2006.
My scores were very poor.
I have heard that certain IM programs provide their residents with in training exam questions from previous years to help them prepare for Board exams.Unfortunately not my program.
If there is anyone with such old questions,I would definitely willing to pay them a very reasonable price.
