thanks for the advice! right now i'm working on UVM's. but a whole slew of other schools seem to have this open ended question.

I've been writing a "why you should pick me even though my grades suck ... and by the way, here is why my grades suck."

It seems to be effective, as I've gotten interviews at many of the schools I've written that for.
