So, I am applying to pharmacy school this admissions cycle, but I can't decide on when to apply.

My top choice school has a deadline of Nov. 2, so I am definitely applying within a few weeks to there. But, I was thinking I might should wait until after this semester to add the rest of my schools to PharmCAS because my GPA is low, and I wanted them to see this semester's grades prior to making a decision.

My gpa is a 2.963 and I still have a lot more pre-reqs to finish. I am going to finish them by the end of spring. Do you think schools would see my courses in progress and wait to make a decision or would they go ahead and reject me because of my low gpa?

I know the many benefits of applying early, but I just don't know what the best thing to do is in this case. Any advice?

When the semester is over, you have your updated transcripts sent to PharmCAS and make the corresponding changes in your class list. The schools you have applied to will receive that information. You really should e-submit instead of waiting until the end of the semester, especially if your school of choice has rolling admissions. Usually, interviews begin in January.

I thought that once you submitted pharmcas all your choices are locked in. So if you are going to apply for that one school you will also have to pick all the other ones at the same time. I could be wrong but that was my understanding.

From PharmCAS:
http://www.pharmcas.org/applicants/esubmit.htm

After the initial submission of your completed PharmCAS application, you may only make changes to the following items:
  • Full Legal Name
  • Alternate Name
  • Permanent Mailing Address
  • Current Mailing Address
  • Phone Numbers
  • Email Address
  • Fax Number
  • Password: Not transmitted to your designated pharmacy schools
  • Designate Additional PharmCAS Programs: No substitutions or deletions.
  • Planned Coursework: One-time changes during the Academic Update only
  • New Fall Courses Completed: One-time changes during the Academic Update only
  • Reference Contacts: You may not delete an evaluator from your application once PharmCAS receives the evaluator's reference
So you can still pick new schools. I'm not sure if the price rate for applications remains the same, though. You can update your classes only one time between December 15 and February 1.

No, you can actually go back at any point and add schools.

I think you're right. I probably should go ahead and e-submit. They have the academic update for a reason - they will see my grades before they make any sort of decision probably.

You didn't mention if you were applying to any schools w/ rolling admissions, and if they are, you need to get that sucker in ASAP. You can always update it.
