Hi guys.

First post here.

So I did some research and asking around but did not get a clear answer and was wondering what you guys think.

So I plan to take my DAT in mid July. I will have all my transcripts and other requirements ready to submit when the window opens which means I will be ready to submit except for the DAT score.

I personally wanted to wait 'til I take the DAT before submitting the application so I can have more time to learn about different schools and apply accordingly to my score.

Right now, I am hearing different stories on when I should submit the application.

1. I should submit it right away anyways because that shows that you really want to get into that school and they will hold on to your application until the DAT score comes in.

2. Wait until you have your DAT score. Schools are getting hundreds of application. If they don't see you DAT score they will less likely hold on to your application file.

So which one is more likely and what would you guys do?

I would rather wait 'til I take my DAT but then I am a bit scared submitting my application almost at the end of July.

What do you guys think? any advices are welcome.

Thanks in advance

Submit when it opens, you can indicate on the application when you are taking it. Your application will be held until they receive your scores anyway.
So are you saying AADSAS will not send out my application to the schools until they receive my DAT Score?

I hear mixed stories about this as well.

You application will be mailed out without DAT scores and then again with DAT scores. Schools will consider this incomplete anyway and won't look at it until after you take the DAT.

Thanks for clearing that up.

In that case what would be the advantages of submitting the application early?

Wouldn't it be better if I just wait until I take the DAT. (assuming I have the application ready to submit minus school selections)

There really isn't much of a difference to be honest but the application process is too different between schools to make broad generalizations. July is still considered "early" but your DAT scores will take 2-3 weeks to be processed and then mailed. If you submit early, some schools will consider you in an earlier batch when they actually start evaluating applications. It is also possible to get some secondary applications soon after you submit which may help get your application "complete" earlier.

I see. Thanks for your comments. it was very helpful.

I guess it really boils down to how much time can I spend on preparing my application while studying for the DAT then...

Thank you very much-
!

I'm glad you asked this because I will be in a similar situation if I get into my post-bacc.

I'll be taking DAT late June to July. I plan to submit early though, so it's one less thing to worry about. I can focus solely on DAT prep and keeping my grades up.

But you have to realize that once you submit you applacartion, you will be swamped with supplimentary document requests.

And most of then will be short essays and etc.

I dont think I will have time replying to all those 15+ requests while studying for the DAT

Submit it the first day in May, with the state school as the only school who receives the information. Then study hard for the DAT and take it mid-July(or whenever you fell you're ready), depending on your DAT score you can select the other schools you want to apply to.
This way all your information, transcripts and recommendation letters are verified by the AADSAS. When you take your DAT all you have to do is check the other boxes in AADSAS ...the selected schools will receive your application quickly.

Thanks for the advice.

So to clarify, are you saying state schools only receive the application (w/o DAT) and private schools do not?

Also, once I submit my application, can I later add more schools with no penalty?

I guess my ultimate question will be

"Can i submit my application with out selecting any schools to send out to and once I take the DAT then select the schools"

no, DAT is required for all schools. But without the DAT score its hard to pin point where you want to apply.
All I am saying is that you should get your application in early, because it takes a while for the them verify your application material(like weeks). If you wait until Mid-July, the schools will likely receive your application in early August (kinda late).

So when you mean "application in early" you mean getting the rest (transcripts, LORs and etc) started. right?

I guess my questions now boils down to

"Can I have my transcripts and LORs verfied and all other documents verified with out actually "subitting" my application so once I take my DAT all I have to do is select the schools and hit SUBMIT."

Sorry if I am confusing you guys..

Submit in June so everything is in. When you finish the DAT in July, just notify the schools. Some will take unofficial scanned scores. By submitting early, you avoid the long duration of having it being mailed out in later batches and they take a while to calculate the GPA

can someone tell me how long is it between when you take the DAT and when your scores are ready/sent to schools?

It takes ~2-3 weeks for processing. The DAT is admistered by the ADA which is separate from the ADEA which is responsible for AADSAS (though the actual company that does the dirty work for AADSAS is http://www.liaison-intl.com/).

I want to submit my application now, but the DAT scores and the committee letter hasn't been linked up yet. Is there any problem sending it without that? Won't it add itself later? Like will the scores and letters be able to link up to the app.
