When To Use The Calculator?

I've been doing Kaplan and Math Destroyer and I'm getting destroyed on QR. My kaplan class instructed me to use the calculator as little as possible and to approximate the answers (even though they have a calculator that simulates the real thing). I don't have a problem when the answer choices are reasonably spaced but a lot of problems have choices that are really close.

When should I be using the calculator and just punch in the numbers?

Does the calculator stay open or does it close after each problem?

i'm also wondering about this. sometimes estimating gets me in trouble when the answer choices are close together. Have you guys had problems with the calculator freezing or anything?

The calculator opens when you click on the Exhibit button and it closes after each answer choice so for each question you need to open it again..but it takes like 2 seconds to open the calculator...

While practicing for my last attempt, I practice QR using the Windows calculator as the one on the test is quite similar to it...this does get you accustom to using the calculator..

Regarding the calculator issues - freezing and acting funny..I remember reading a few posts..dont remember correctly, but said something like.if you hit CE to cancel an error, the caculator does start acting up..so if you enter a something wrong..I would just start over again...

I am not sure if they have updated the calculators and would like to know from recent test takers..

Haha. I've been thinking about how to reply this for two weeks now. 😀

The best I came up with was: "Sorry guys I was out for a minute guys, got hit with some Pd/C. Luckily, there was some strong base around so I could get my allyl back on."

But really I signed in on my old account (from back in the day) and the mods noticed that it was from the same IP. Apparently having multiple accounts is a violation of the TOS.
