I'm applying to the following programs:
UPenn's Special Sciences
LECOM's Health Sciences
PCOM's Biomedical Sciences
Drexel's IMS

UCinn
EVMS
Loyola MAMS
BU MAMS
G-town (eek)

UMDNJ
Rosalind Franklin
UNC's M.S. in Nutritional Biochemistry

I know, it's a lot.. but I also don't feel confident at all in my qualifications. I'll take the chances of posting my GPA and stats and well, let me know if you all think I may even stand a chance at being accepted into any programs.

If it's the same as the previous cycle, you'll hear from EVMS 2-3 weeks after your application is complete (once they get your new MCAT scores, letters of recommendation, transcripts, etc).

Your MCAT score is good. Why are you retaking it? (I don't think you need to, but that's just my opinion).

I think you have a good chance at gaining admission to an SMP, which are geared towards students with a lower GPA and high MCAT. Just make sure at all the programs that you have the minimum requirements (i.e. for EVMS, you need a 2.75 GPA + 23 MCAT minimum). You are still really early as far as rolling admissions so don't worry!

Good luck. 🙂

Oh, that's not too bad at all! I was worried that I wouldn't hear until deep into the summer. To be specific, I am planning on going backpacking across Eastern Europe from June - end of July (and push it into August if I can). I was starting to get worried...

I guess I am retaking it to try and up my science scores, to compensate for my low GPA - I am stoked with my verbal score though! I did not really study as much as I know I could have, the first time around - I started studying in the middle of July for the September MCAT, and I was also taking a summer class and at a full-time research internship, so I was quite clearly distracted...

Thank you so much for the advice - are you at EVMS now? If you are, and I get very lucky and am accepted, I may be coming around to ask you your opinions on it 🙂

Why did you omit Harvard's HCP? It would certainly be the cheapest in terms of tuition.

It was originally on my list but after I decided not to drive myself crazy from applying to everything, I omitted it 🙂

It is the least expensive yes, but I guess I liked the sound of the program the least.

Yeah, I'm finishing up my first semester here as a med masters. Feel free to ask me questions as they come up. And from what I hear, you can be waiting up until the summer to see if you're accepted if you are applying later or are on the waiting list, but EVMS has pretty quick turnaround. Have you talked to an advisor about applications? When I was applying, people I talked to gave me the impression that I should work directly on problem areas in my application (i.e. take more classes to increase my GPA) rather than working to increase an already strong part of my application (i.e. retaking the MCAT to compensate) because that won't make the weak GPA go away.

Yeah, my pre-med advisor advised that I retake the MCAT and try to score at least above a 31/32, or at least with higher science scores (10, 11+) to "show medical schools" that despite my poor performance in freshman-level science courses (physics I, physics II, chem I, chem II, etc) - I have the knowledge now to succeed in both upper-level courses and the science-section of the MCAT...

yay 😛

oh okay. good luck on studying and on your applications then! don't worry...the in-between year is just iffy because of all the uncertainties, but you'll be fine!
