When you found out you got in, how did you react?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I graduated undergrad 7 years ago with a 2.6 GPA and gave up my dreams of becoming a dentist. I had shadowed, did well in my classes and was on track freshmen year, but it all went downhill sophomore year. I figured it wasn't meant to be and started working after graduation. After two years, I couldn't take it anymore and started working towards dental school. After a master's degree and taking the DAT 3 times, I received a phone call for an interview at my dream school. As soon as I realized who was calling, I started crying and the admissions officer chuckled a bit. I received my acceptance email last week, and I just sat in my office and cried. I never understood it when people were so happy that they could cry, but now I know that feeling. I called my mom, and it was so great to finally know that I'm track again. It hasn't set in yet. When talking about dental school, I still say "IF I get it..." and sometimes I'd be doing something mundane and then I realize "OMG I got into dental school!! What??"

To anyone reading this who is thinking about applying but discouraged about your stats, DON'T give up. When I first started working towards dental school, I had zero people support me- including my mom. This was understandable since my GPA was pretty terrible. But you only live once, and you don't want to spend it thinking "What if..." SDN has been an amazing resource with the most helpful users giving great advice and support so use it to your advantage and don't let anyone discourage you from your goals.

We are basically the same person, down to the GPA and graduation year 👍

Congrats!

I was much more excited by my interview invites tbh. The schools I received invites to are known for having chill interviews and high interview -> acceptance rates. Fist pumps in the library and shower though 😎

My wife and I had just put our daughter down. We got the email and I picked my wife up and spun around the living room a few times. (Staying extra quiet). Then went to the other side of the house and danced to "celebrate" by kool and the gang on repeat for like 30 minutes. One of my favorite memories.
