I want to inquire information in regards to the chance that if I get accepted to an osteopathic school in another state where will I have to do the third and fourth years? I am skeptical if it could be done back in my own hometown in such a way as it is done at off shore medical programs.

No, typically you will be doing the 3rd and 4th year where/pretty close to where your institution is located. Unless your hometown has a hospital that's affiliated with the medical school and they send med students there....it's unlikely.

Thats actually possible. I know a DO school that is over 1000 miles away that sends students to a hospital a 100 miles away from my house.

Is there a way to find out which schools have which rotations in which cities? Specifically, moving to soem god forsaken place like pennsylvania could be much more enticing if it meant I could come back to california for my third and/or fourth years...

Your still going to have to be there for year 1 and two. If you really dont like a state don't go there!!!

I can handle two years. Hell, I could handle four years if I absolutely had to. I want to be a doctor, that's the bottom line. That said, it'd be nice to find a program that lets you do your rotations in a decent area if the west coast schools dont work out.

You should be able to find atleast one west coast school if you can get into an east coast one is my point. Touro nv at still Arizona for example

Yeah, I'm just nervous with my score set to be released in a few days...planning for a wide net just in case scores arent great...I'm applying to low tier MD as well, which I can be less picky about. Ideally I'd wind up at Touro CA or Western...but who knows. I think ive heard LECOM has the option to do 3rd year in CA.

As long as you are aware of some of that schools policies it would be ideal!

It depends. SOMA has sites all over the country and could put you pretty close to home if you got accepted into the CHC you wanted. But given that I have no idea where you are from, I can't provide much assistance, OP

I know AZCOM has rotation sites in Cali... It was either in SD or LA.

ATSU has a CHC in Cali but I'm not sure if they still offer that option.

Oh come on... he has said it a few times. Look up.

I'll let it slide this time. 😉

Edit: I'm the dummy. You meant OP.

Yes, they still offer the Visalia location. It was my 2nd CHC site choice when I had to rank them.

Guess I didn't see where he posted where he was from... or I was too lazy to read lol

Most schools have core rotations during your 3rd year that must be completed at hospitals affiliated with your school. Your 4th year electives can be done pretty much anywhere in the world that will take you, so you always can do your electives near your home.

Are you aware of an out of state medical program that has affiliations in New York hospitals for the third and fourth years?

KCOM has sites all over the country. Utah, Arizona, Missouri, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey (all I can think of now).

SOMA does one year in Phoenix the years 2-4 at a CHC, also ranging all over the country. Not sure where so you'd have to check the SOMA thread.

I do have a friend from LECOM-B who spent OMS 1/2 at the institution and is now completing OMS 3/4 back here in San Diego. Some schools have the possibility of doing away core rotations but most schools will have theirs within the region.

Thank you for your help I have applied to those schools! Are you familiar with off shore medical programs? Besides the Caribbean I have been researching if there were other places where you do the first two years there and last two years back in places like New York. From what I have gathered the only such medical program is in Australia but you have to do the last two years in New Orleans. Are you familiar with any other such programs?

Nova however wants a 28. Are there any osteopathic medical programs that will take roughly a 26?

SOMA has a NYC site

Even LECOM has a year-long regional site in NYC. They also have multiple in NY state (not really close to NYC). If I were you and got into a stateside school, I'd go there over any foreign med school, though. You really don't want to screw yourself over come residency time.

That said, if I were you, I'd research each school you're interested in applying to and see where their affiliates are. Most schools have a decent amount of affiliates all over the place.
