Where can I submit an abstract

Hey guys?

I just completed a research project and want to submit an abstract to a meeting. I am a 4th year medical student applying to ophtho.

I know most would say ARVO, but the problem is that ARVO takes applications beginning Oct 15, and I want something submitted by September so I can put in on my application.

I'm also open to submitting the abstract to a journal or something that is likely to get accepted.

ARVO is the most recognizable conference. AAO submission has passed. ASCRS deadline is february. Most journals don't publish abstracts only. Consider writing up the manuscript and choosing an appropriate journal

What about submitting/presenting to a non-ophtho related meeting? Like the AMA research symposium for example?

Is this useless in the minds of an ophtho selection committee, or worth doing?

Not a bad idea to submit to AMA at all. Ophtho is a pretty small field though and many topics are not really of interest to general medicine. Occasionally you see an ophtho-related topic published in a NEJM or Science but it tends to be the results of large clinical trials or huge breakthroughs. I still think writing and submitting the manuscript would be more impressive.

Any good suggestions on where to submit the manuscript once its written up? Since this was a solely medical student run project, I dont think it will get into a major journal like AJO, so anyone have ideas of some places that accept medical student projects??

And also, can I submit the abstract to ARVO to present as well as submit the manuscript somewhere else for publication?
