Just curious where people stay on their away rotations? I want to do one in Dallas and Atlanta. Can you rent places for just a month?

It depends on what your finances are like. My school does not give us anything money-wise (loans, grants, etc) for away rotations. I have to figure out how to pay for transportation, rent, food, etc on my own. I could take out a private loan but that seems a bit overboard. I'm only going where I have free housing.

I used craigs list and padmapper.com to find a place to sublet. I had never been to San Francisco before, and didn't know the city, so padmapper was nice to check out which areas were higher crime rates, etc.

Often the school you're rotating at can provide a list of places to rent if you ask. For my first away they provided the list and I rented a room in someone's house. For my second rotation I didn't know to ask for a list (which they apparently had but didn't provide), and I found a room to rent from a professor on Craigslist. It worked out great, but my commute was longer than the other visiting student who asked for a list of available housing.

This is what I did as well, worked like a charm. Many sublets are furnished so work out perfectly.

I stayed at an extended stay hotel, some places more reasonably priced than others. Sometimes the hospital will have special rates with local places. It was nice having a kitchen and maid service.

Many times the location you are rotating at will have a list of residents or other staff who will rent out a room to you. I would ask the rotations office first. That's what I did when I rotated in Albuquerque. I stay with a resident in one of their extra bedrooms. Had my own bath and shared a kitchen.
