Where did you match 2009

Beaumont! Location was an issue for me, but I loved the program. I'm hearing great things about Royal Oak.

Where I'm going -- not my first choice, but a good program. Would rather not say more because I don't want to get bad rep from my program as someone down on where she's going, but man is my ego crushed to a bloody pulp from this process. I'm still bouncing between anger and depression, and hoping to get to acceptance by July 1.

Just thought I should balance out the sense that everyone on here is at their number 1. Nope.

Congrats to all of you who matched. For those who got into Allopathic programs, did you have to take the USMLE step 2? If not then can you please say where you match?
Thanks fellas!

So sorry to hear! I'm sure you've been through a lot. Hope things work out for you in the end (as in you start liking the program).

LG, I matched my 4th, and was SHOCKED... turned out to be the best thing ever for me, though. Have faith, you will be fine. But yeah, it's an ego bruiser for sure.

just look at the sparse number of unfilled spots... you should not feel bad about anything...

you may have heard people say it all works out in the end... and it does and it will... speaking from experience (match day was 7 years ago for me!)

just an FYI, i seriously think that more people say they matched at their #1 then actually did...

i did residency with a few people who also went to med school with me... i remember one guy told everyone how our residency was his #1choice and it wasn't... he had ranked somewhere else #1 (which he had told me in passing as a 4th year med student when we were on some BS rotation together...)

Matched at SUNY Upstate, which was #1 for me.

My #1 choice 😀

Matched at my #4 two years ago. Like what a lot of people have said previously, it has a way of turning out to be exactly what you need. My top two had flight programs, and given the recent number of helo crashes, it would have created a lot of friction at home had I matched and continued to fly at either of those programs.

My #3 was a ACGME in PA and I would not do a TRI nor would I try to satisfy Resolution 42 by doing a FP rotation - I get enough of that in the ED, thanks. So now I'm in NY, have an unrestricted medical license and can moonlight. We bought a house, which would have been impossible at my #1.

Perhaps I'm rationalizing my #4 as being better than it is. Maybe. But I'm happy with my education, happy where I'm living. It's a great fit. Perhaps in time you'll decide your match was a pretty good fit too. Congrats on matching.

Thanks for the kind words from everybody. It sounds like it was an especially tough year, and the usual "rules" wound up not applying so well for more of us than usual, but it's nice to hear that things worked out for people in the end even if they were disappointed in the Match. Congrats to everybody who did get their top choices! You should be extra proud this year.

My year, there were only 6 open spots.

There's obviously a selection bias to these types of threads. Obviously people are going to be far more eager to post that they matched to a #1 then a #12 spot, and who's to say that they're even being honest?

I hope you take the advice that's preceded this post to heart, because it's true. But if that didn't do it for you, then consider the fact that in order to match at your #4 you had to do well in high school, get into a good college, do exceptionally well there, get into med school, do well there, and then apply again to a competitive specialty, and not just get invited to, but also do well in your interviews. That's the cream of the cream of the cream of the crop, and to simply be in that group is a significant accomplishment indeed.

To everyone who matched - welcome to one of the hardest jobs in the world.

And you have to realize that my #1 could be your #12 and vis versa....so "I matched into my number 1" shouldn't mean as much to you as it does to me.

agreed. I think there is a skewed selection of posts here from people eager to post their #1s but honestly, EM is not ortho or optho. If you look at the unofficial rank list, not a lot of overlap in rankings. I could rarely count a similar number one. It's a testament to how unpredictable this whole process is.

Thanks fellas!

I took the USMLE step2 and took it early in August.. my score went down so not sure if that helped but I matched into an Allopathic program

I matched at my #1 but I had this exact same plan if it didn't happen. In part to preserve my pride, and in part because my top 6 or 7 programs are all such wonderful programs that any of them could have been my #1. In addition, I think it's nobody's business but my own where I ranked my program. That said, I'm such a blabbermouth that I couldn't stop talking about my top 4 programs for about a month leading up to the match!

So, in short, you're not saying where you matched?

I find that a bit quizzical, considering how many people do name their programs, and, yet, do not lose their anonymity, and how involved you were in cheerleading people along during the match process.

Still, each their own.

You guys are too nice, I give her the raspberry for not telling 👎
I'm proud of Harbor! 😀
Besides, anonymity is overrated - given my profile, it would take someone all of 1 minute to ID me, but...so? 😎
