I'm pretty used to studying in the library at my school but now that I am home for the summer I am having a hard time studying for the MCAT. Its really hard for me to keep concentrated for more than 2 hours and now I'm trying to go for 5+ all of a sudden and its pretty difficult...

Try going to your local public library. It should be about the same atmosphere as your college library.

I study in a classroom with a whiteboard. I'm a visual person so I like to draw out everything.

on the bed or floor ... I can't study sitting upright on a chair :/

Local library. Take away the distractions, sit down, and study away.

I totally agree. Memorizing the 20 amino acids was cake with my whiteboard.

I find the best place to study is actually in my car. It's probably because I'm isolated and can't get distracted too easily. I try not to study in there too much though - it uses too much gas to keep the heater/AC on.

I need food/coffee to keep me going so I always study at Starbucks or a local coffee shop.

There's no tv or computer, so all I can do while I'm there is study.

Though with the poverty that is about to ensue upon entering med school, I'll probably have to change. I'm thinking about getting an extra big dining room table and investing in a coffee maker and ear plugs. I'll also have to try not to let myself get lured in by tv or SDN.

I practically lived in my public library last summer while I was studying for the MCAT. They have wireless, which was convenient for practice tests. With my huge family, it's impossible to find a quiet room in my house.

Wow thanks I wonder why I never thought of that, I love coffee shops and just like you I need some food/drink to keep me occupied while studying.

I need to eat and drink water continuously while studying. If I run out of food, my brain will shut down and start wandering. I went to a starbucks once but it got loud. Barnes & Noble is ok. But it can get loud too. Just depends on the time. The local library is good. Or I just study in my house. But sometimes even if i'm alone in my house, i'll get distracted. My school is good. But it does suck to know a lot of people, since people keep coming up to you and talking. Most of the time I get work done there though.

Priorities

1. isolated library desks with those head thingies
2. library with people around studying the same thing so i can think "those *******s are gaining on me"
3. starbucks/ local coffee shop.
4. local library
5. dinning table at home
6. my closet.

i get less and less done down the list.

preference
1) coffee shop (but gas plus no income=i rarely go these days)..plus...some punk gangster kids were mean mugging me the last time i was at our borders..and kept staring at me while i was studying and said to me "what set u claim"...ugh..i was wearing a university med center shirt...what makes you think im in a gang..so i dont go as much. i freaking hate this city.
2)library or study rooms (ive graduated. my current city is ghetto, so theres a bunch of thugs hitting on girls at my local public library..so i dont go..Our J.C. is just as ghetto, so i dont go...and the kids at our local private school are snotty..so i dont go)
3)kitchen (home)
4)room (home)...which is where im at currently...at least i have free coffee here...but i keep getting distracted with the web and television.

in case you havent noticed..i hate my city...i stand out like a sore thumb and people think im wierd because i wear dockers, sandals and lacoste instead of phat farm, baggy jeans and jordans.

Dude what city do you live in where the thugs hang out at the local coffee shop?

I study almost exclusively in my room. Screw going somewhere to study. That's never made any sense to me, but I guess it works for most people.

All I can say about that is L.O.L.

I pretty much study in my bedroom, mainly on the floor or bed. The floor is the most productive since I tend to fall asleep on my bed. I can't really study in public because I love people watching and get distracted by what's going on. I can't study in private study rooms or quiet reading rooms either because I will fall asleep. I also can't really study in groups or pairs because I like to talk. Studying sucks. Haha

dude, they hang out anywhere there are girls at to "swoop" on. Plus, our borders is attached to the mall, so alot of ghetto shop lifters walk throughout borders to get to and from the mall.

For the life of me I cannot study at home. Way too many distractions, even in my own room.

At school I usually prefer the desk in my room. Or, when I need to really crank out some good hours, I'll do the library and sit in one of the desks they have hidden in the middle of the bookshelves. Good times.

Agreed. It's nice to draw everything out and talk through it. Doing it multiple times is a great way to memorize pathways and such.

I hate that I can't study when its loud and that I can't study when its completely quiet. I've been the only one in the house most of the day for the past 3 weeks. Yet I couldn't study at all. I think I need to be around people to study. But I don't want those people to be loud. Which is weird. If they talk quietly then its fine. But when i'm alone (home or empty library), and all i hear is the eerie silence, i can't study either.

Any tips?

Most of my studying takes place in my bed. Occasionally I will hit up the library, but that is only if I am having a hard time getting motivated.

how do u do that, i usually knock out

I can study anywhere if I have food! Midterm weeks/finals make me fat...

I usually study in my room cuz that's where my laptop is. Having to haul crap around to go to the library or wherever is too complicated for my lazy self. Sucks when my roomate is loud though (which is a lot...). For the MCAT I was lucky because there were barely any people in the study lounges at school in the summer, and MCAT requires the type of concentration not possible for me when I'm sitting at my desk.

Fooooood :]
