As a hopeful attendee of a DO school this year, I've heard so much about these DO specific residencies. Are they spread all over the country or clustered in more DO popular areas (MI, IL..etc)? Does anyone know of a resource to find out what hospitals offer these DO residencies?
Thanks 🙂

Most of them are in the same cities as the schools, but this can be variable.

TCOM's residencies are all in Ft. Worth with the exception of some family medicine programs.

OSU-COM's programs are all over the state, with the highest concentration in Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

I know that most of CCOM's programs are the city of Chicago, but I'm sure they could have programs elsewhere as well.

Not true. Look here for info about TCOM associated residency programs.

Yeah, but only for family practice.

There is an unfortunate lack of residencies in the mountain and pacific regions of the US. DOs are almost forced to go ACGME unless they want to live in Los Angeles or move East.

I hear that with the new DO school in Washington will come many new AOA residencies.

I've heard that as well about the Washington school. I wish more of the schools popping up would realize the need to provide GME for their students instead of just schlepping them out and hoping there's enough spots in the future.

A hospital infrastructure costs much more than a classroom building.

i think the stat is something like 70% of DO residencies are in 6 states - if i recall correctly: OH, MI, FL, NY, NJ, PA - do a search for the med ed issue of JAOA for the ref.

Hey, don't forget Vegas! 🙄
Valley is starting FM, IM this year, adding other programs over the next few year, like Derm and Ophtho next year. Rumors of Ortho, EM and Uro in 2008, maybe more on the horizon.

I thought they were all in metro Detroit! 🙂
