I wish there was a faq for this. But I have a friend whose applying, and she needs help trying to figure out which schools to apply to with the following stats:

Undergrad: UMD
Major: Biological Sciences
Overall: 3.39
Science: 3.20

Grad: Georgetown
Major: Biotechnology
Overall: 3.59

DAT: 18

We will need more information to help you assess her chances. Can you provide a score breakdown of her DAT? Does she have in-state schools she can apply to? How is her EC?

She took her DAT today and got an 18, as expected. Breakdown is as follows:

Perceptual Ability 18
Quantitative Reasoning 16
Reading Comprehension 20
Sciences:
Bio 19
General Chemistry 17
Organic Chemistry 17

Also, she's been working as a Medical Writer for over a year now, and studied for this exam while she had a full time job. Her in-state school is Maryland, which we hear is really competitive. Her EC's are pretty good - she started a child outreach program at a local hospital, and has volunteer hours at a local hospital. She also has shadowed an orthodontist, and a dentist, and will definitely be getting a recommendation letter from this orthodontist.

Back to the original question at hand then. Where can she apply to be competitive, but at the same time has a reasonable cost? For instance, NOT NYU, Boston, etc.

um...UMD. even thats a stretch. with those stats, private schools are prob the only way to go

I kind of guessed that but which ones are attainable, but won't break the bank is the question. From a financial point of view, it almost doesn't make sense to go to dental school if their costs are as high as NYU, Boston, etc.

I don't think finances should be considered at this point. If becoming a dentist is her dream she should go for it. She needs to apply to 15+ schools. In all honesty, I really don't think shes that bad of an applicant, she has a Masters degree and a pretty decent gpa, with great extracurricular act's. Check out pre-dents.com for more info.

Is this website legit?

Sorry it won't let me paste the website without messing it up, but you need to remove the spaces

Yea that website is definitely good. But another nice one is Predents.com, you would be able to see how other people did with similar stats as your friend is applying. Also the most important gpa's in the adcoms eyes will most likely be the total overall cum and science and BCP (the most important). .
