I'm trying to narrow down my school list while being realistic, and want to know where to apply. cGPA 3.80 sGPA 3.80 MCAT 29 (10/9/10). I've been in a research lab for about a year and half no publications but did do a poster presentation and wrote a thesis if that matters. I've worked as a tutor for 2 years and discussion group leader for genetics for 2 years. I've also been a scribe in the ED for about 300 hours and volunteered at a family medicine outreach clinic for ~100 hours.

My list so far:

Chicago Medical School
Cooper Medical School
Creighton
Frank Netter
George Washington U
New York Medical College
Pennsylvania State
Saint Louis University
Commonwealth Medical College
Brown (Super reach I know but oh well)
Buffalo State University
University of Arizona
University of Arkansas
University of Missouri - Kansas
West Virginia University

I'm also applying to University of Nevada as I'm a Nevada resident. All I really did to determine this list was look at MSAR and found schools that fit my MCAT range, so I was wondering if anyone had any additional advice. Thank you!

Also I'm not opposed to DO schools but know absolutely nothing about where to apply for those.

I'd add Medical College of Wisconsin to that list as well. I know a few people with MCATs of 27-29 and lower GPA than yours who were accepted there.

You can check the MSAR, but I believe they are about 50/50 Wisconsinites to OOS. So more OOS friendly than a state school, but not quite as much as your standard private school. The people I know who were accepted are all OOS.

My suggestions based on my MSAR research. My prediction is that I will have similar stats to you so this is the kind of list I came up with. I adjusted from my MDapps.

I would add:

EVMS
Oakland Beaumont
Vermont
Loma Linda
Albany
MCW
Rosalind Franklin
Wright State
Indiana (they do accept like 300 students every year with decent OOS rate, but might be a reach)

Maybe add New Mexico. They aren't very OOS friendly but they get a low number of OOS applications every year (less than 1000) and will accept some. You are regional, so there's that.

I would chuck:

Buffalo, they only accept 10% OOS and median MCAT is 32.
Arkansas is somewhat of a reach, unfriendly to OOS.

Thanks! Are they out of state friendly?

Yep!

For DO, I would just apply to your regional schools. Your stats are good enough that you will likely get accepted to a nearby one. That is, if your desire is to stay somewhat close to home.

Good luck!!

Thank you so much, and good luck to you as well!

Hey Guys,

I've read a lot of posts on here but this is the first time I'm posting. I would really appreciate some help on where to apply. Below are all my relevant stats in simplified form.

Overall GPA: 3.86
MCAT Score (Just got them today!): 511 (85th percentile, all sections fairly even distribution)

ECs:
1 Publication - 20 hours
Thesis Writing Research Program + 1st author publication - 200 hours
7 Honors/Rewards/Recognitions: Officer of the Year, Science Seminar Series, AP Scholar, IB Scholar, Honor Societies etc.
National Science Foundation Recognition for Research Excellence - 20 hours
2 Research Conferences/Symposiums - 9 hours
Physician Shadowing (5 types) + Medical Student Rounds Sit-ins - 204 hours
Research Program #1 (2 years) - 70 hours
Medical Event Executive Board (2 years) - 600 hours
Research Lab Assistant (2 years) - 1016 hours
Research Program #2 (1 year) - 125 hours
Microbiology Teaching Assistant - 284 hours
Medical Organization (3 years, Director, Vice President of Operations, President) - 1665 hours
Non-Medical/Clinical Volunteering - 173 hours
SGA Committee, Relay for Life Committee, Health Week Committee, Education/Literacy Committee, Different Abilities Committee - 185 hours
Hospital/Clinical Volunteering (4 years) - 247 hours

Where all can I apply? I know my ECs are excellent and my GPA is solid but because the MCAT score plays such a large role in where to apply I'm not sure what schools I can apply to. Mainly because I'm not sure what to do with my 511 in terms of where to start. I'm applying to all of my state schools + Brown + Dartmouth. I want to apply to 20-30 schools and need help deciding where.

Thank You!
