Wow, another amazing stats.
29 on Ochem.
though DAT and RC is a bit low.

I am sure you will get into somewhere.
If you want to increase your chance, applying to some of the private schools will help a great deal.
With your stats, you can probably get into most of the dental schools. Issues to think about: tution, living cost, weather, transportation fee.

Wow,

Houston sure is breeding some great DAT scores. Must be the water  Congrats. And I would not be to worried about those 16's. If they ask about them, just do your best to explain them. Your science scores rock. I don't think you will have a problem getting an interview this year. Whether you get in will depend on your interview, extra curric's, and dental experience.

Don't fret. Your stat's are superb.

And, since you are a Texas resident, your best shot is here in Texas because Texas schools show much love to their own residents. And when I say much I mean MUCH. It is very hard for out of staters to go to Texas med or dental schools. So, that means you only have to compete with us Texans.

A private school is an option. But do you really want to pay 3-4 times as much for your education? Texas schools are great and I can assure you that they hold there own with out-of-state private schools. Plus, the cost of living is so cheap in Texas compared to places like New York, etc. I think your strategy of only applying to the Texas schools is fine, if Texas is where you wanna be. I did the same thing.

A 23 academic average is great, but I think that 16 on the PAT kills your legitimate claim as the DAT guru.
