Where to change clothes?

My first out of town interview is coming up soon, and I just realized I'm not sure where to change clothes and pack up my suit after the interview.

Where do people usually change clothes?

I change at the school's restroom after the interview.... I don't like changing at the airports' restrooms because they are dirtier, more crowded, and tighter (space-wise).

After I interviewed at LECOM I had a 5-6 hour drive back to Philadelphia. I wasn't driving back in my suit or components of it as it was about 75-80 degrees out. I changed in the parking lot and got accepted.

At most of my interviews, I changed in my car/rental car right in the parking lot. I would usually drive to a more secluded area in whatever parking structure/lot and change.

but this made for an awkward situation once when the security patrol decided to slow down while driving past me and I was the only car around. I could tell they were trying to see what I was up to, so I stopped changing (I had my shirt on, just wasn't wearing pants) and pretended that I was fiddling with my phone and hoping they wouldnt get out of their car (and find that I was pantless). My fake phone call appeased them

at most interviews, this wasn't a problem, since I flew out the next day, but the ones where I left on the same day, they let us use an unused office to change.

I usually stayed at a nearby hotel, checked out of the hotel before the interview but had them store my suitcase behind the front desk while at the interview. Before the trip home, I would return to the hotel and change in the bathroom in the lobby. Worked for me.

I just took off my coat and put it into my garment bag. Flew back in everything else, unless I had a really long wait for my plane. Then I changed into flip-flops for security and comfort purposes.

Dress shirt, tie, slacks + flip flops = win

Seriously, this is not too hard to figure out. It may look unprofessional to simply change into flip flops and a tee-shirt in teh admissions office, but medical schools will always have bathrooms near the entrance. If you cant find, use the airport bathroom.

short and sweet. OP don't be afraid to get down to your briefs in the airport. It's not like you'll see the people in there ever again.

Hell, you could even do it in the parking lot if you're hardcore!

If your hotel is holding your luggage, usually they'll have a restroom in the lobby that you can change in.

There might be a restroom at the school that you can use. No one will care if you've changed after your interview.

You could also change at the airport, if you have the time before checking your bags.

I've done all of the above and they work just fine.

Wherever you need to. Don't over think stuff. I've changed in parking lots, cars, gas stations and wherever else I could. I'm also a little more comfortable with changing in random places due to years of marching band, corp and sports.

In the school's restroom, that's what a bunch of us did. I don't like wearing suits, so I change right after the interview day is over.

You'll have to take your stuff to the dry cleaners anyway -- so get used to the feeling afterwards. You might find it interesting to observe if your surroundings react differently to you. 🙄

For women, it is OK to take a second pair of shoes if long walking is involved (e.g. visiting campus and hospital tour).

The "perfect" dress code is that you feel comfortable and look the part -- without having to change.

You'll have to take your stuff to the dry cleaners anyway -- so get used to the feeling afterwards. You might find it interesting to observe if your surroundings react differently to you. 🙄

I asked all my hotels for late checkout and told them I would not be back from my iviews till afternoon. All of them said it wasn't a problem. So, I went back to my hotels, changed, and then went to the airport.

Studies have shown that people who are wearing suits are more likely to get bumped up to first class when they ask. Wear the suit to the airport and ask, then report back to SDN.

I have definitely done this ^ at most of my interviews.

Also, I have changed in the hospital parking lot at which I parked before the 5 hour drive back to my home institution.

Both are entertaining

Update: I changed in the passenger seat of a rental car (in a parking garage). Oh, I probably should have mentioned that I asked where people change because my luggage consists of an odd bag that has to be unrolled to the full length of the suit jacket when adding or removing clothing...I didn't want to lay my stuff down in an airport bathroom 🙂
