I know its pretty early to be looking but i will be starting at NSU in july. I'm sure you all have tons of opinions on houseing, any suggestions on places i should check out to live?

where's the place to be?

Village East Condos are the place to be!!!!😀

no where north of 595 until you get your bearings.

any students going to nova and living in miami lakes area? It's where I'm looking at.

1. pembroke pines

2. miramar

3. hollywood

4. davie

5. cooper city

The first two re my top choice..yet most apartment complexes are turning into condo's. But great area, mall, resteraunts and lanscape.

when i went to NSU, I lived in Cedar Key, right across from the campus, for two years. Can't complain at all, i walked to school everyday, could take a nap at lunch, and saved $$$ on gas. You're still around where all the students are and the bars aren't far away... I loved it!

My wife lived in Sunforest, which is right next to Cedar Key when seh went to NSU, she liked it there, too.

Not having to drive to school everyday is CRUCIAL!
Q

what is the average rent near the school?
~1000-1200 a month?

i like the idea of not having to drive but i also like the idea of investing in a condo, since rent is already so high.

any suggestions?

if you plan on having it for a long time, then by all means do so. However, if you plan to invest and sell it after a few years, this is not the time to do so. The market is not in your favor, too saturated and you will end up losing money, unless, like I said, it is a long term thing. I spoke with various NSU students and they all told me the same thing that the area is just not good for that right now cuz of saturation. I like the idea too, but if you find yourself selling your condo, like many do, in your third and fourth years cuz of all the traveling and paying for a place you are hardly in during those years, then my friend be prepared for heartache. Buy at your own risk 🙂

rent is about 6-700/person for a 2/2 ...and even cheaper if u go 3/2 ..so the key is to find a roommate u'll save a lot...assuming of course u are single and dont have kids...rite now im paying 640..but my roommates are paying 565 and 495 respectively...and are place is nice.

another thing... a lot of the apartments here are being converted to condo, so look at condos that are being rented out by the owner.

Anybody know anything on renting a house? I really want to stay out of an apartment, as I am sick of living in one, and I really hate having to explain to my neighbors how living in an apartment means you can never, ever, ever be loud.

I live here in Davie now a few blocks from NSU. I haven't heard of any places you can rent a house in the immediate area, and I looked rather extensively last year. As someone mentioned before, you can always rent a condo. Then again, that condo was probably an apartment a couple years ago 🙂

I live in a 3/2 house about a mile south of campus. It's so much better than an apt. I would have blown my brains out if I'd had to do that another year. It's still in the air whether i'm keeping the place next year, have to see what the rotation lottery turns up. But i'll post something about it if not, our owners want to keep it rented.

I live within a 7 minute walk to class. I don't want to share so I have a 1 bedroom. Cameron Cove runs 1075/month ( ac included) and Sunforest has some conveniently variable rates- beware when dealing woth them-they go as high as 1200/month. It is worth it to live so close no parking hassles and you can go home if you want to get lunch or the notes you forgot.
