Which are the "top tier" programs?

Hi guys,

I'm just wondering which programs in OBGYN are considered the top tier ones. I have looked on ACOG but many schools don't post any numbers. And which ones would be middle or lower tier? I know I'm not competitive for the top tier so I'm trying to see what range I should look at and don't want to waste my time at places that are the hardest to get into. Thanks!

In no particular order for Top Tier and NOT all inclusive:

UAB, UPMC/Magee, Brigham, Brown, UTSW, UCSF, UCLA, Penn, OSU

As far as middle and low, it would be easier if you just posted a list of programs you were considering.

Note that Yale has a cutoff score of 215 while every other top 40ish programs have no cutoff.

Most programs have cut-off scores (especially top-tier programs). They just don't put them on their website.

Is it appropriate to e-mail a PD ( given that is the contact e-mail provided on their residency program website) and ask what the cut off is?

Dallas=Parkland/UTSW, which some consider the epicenter of all things OB. Very strong MFM department. 15,000 deliveries a year. ~20 residents a year. They are downsizing a bit. One of the most respected programs in the country.

There is a Baylor Dallas which is a smaller community program.

Houston has a decent number. Baylor and Methodist come to mind. Both solid programs.

For what it's worth, I found a conversation with an NIH leader last year helpful for learning the top residency programs in OB/GYN. In case it helps anyone, by reputation and regions:

Ob/Gyn
East Coast: BWH, Yale, Penn, Pitt/Magee, Brown
Midwest: Wash U, Northwestern (+/-)
South: UAB, Duke, Emory (+/-), UT Southwest/Parkland
West: UCSF, Univ of Wash, Stanford
