I heard that most universities and dental schools accept hours from community college if they are for basic classes which most college students take in the first two years. What about science classes? I haven't decided on my major yet. Would most schools accept credit for the basic prereqs like biology, chemistry, and physics from a community college? What if I decide that I want to major in something like elementary education, and those classes are not in my basic requirements?
I am going to order a copy of the "Adea guide to dental schools", but I am thinking about taking community college classes this week, so I need this information asap.

Just about always, taking non-science classes at the CC is just fine, and for the most part, taking science classes is fine as well. I took all of my dental pre-reqs at my CC before I transferred, and I only had it mentioned at one of my interviews. The schools will say that they'd prefer you to take sciences more at the university, but in the long run I don't think it makes a big difference for most schools. Just be sure to take upper division sciences once you transfer and do well in them, and that will go a long ways in proving yourself to those CC look downers.

As per your other question, do you mean the classes that are for education, or the dental pre-reqs, and do you mean if you take them at a CC?

Thank you both for your replies. They were both VERY helpful.

Doc Toothache,
That chart answered my question exactly! Thank you very much.

Vicviper,

I meant that if I choose elementary education as my major and the science classes are not required in my basic two years, would it still be ok to take them at a community college.

Yeah, from what I understand of your question, that would be fine, but you should always call and ask to make sure. And also, if you read Doc's thread you'll see that the list of schools that say that they don't take CC credit isn't necessarily a hard rule, many schools are more than willing to bend the rules for applicants they like. I got into a school that claimed they didn't take any CC credit after I took all of my pre-reqs at the CC, so if there's a school you have your heart set on, call and ask how strict they are on that.
