Which DO schools do NOT automatically give secondaries to those who meet the minimums?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Almost all of them screen GPA/MCAT below 3.0/500. So far, CUSOM is the only one I have applied to that does a holistic review before sending secondaries

I disagree with your statement. Just off of the top of my head, LECOM-B, VCOM, and WVSOM all review holistic. I'm sure there are more.

Holistic review process usually entails that there are no (official) minimum requirements doesn't it? So having a holistic review process could mean that every applicant gets a secondary just as much as it could mean only applicants that the school is seriously considering.

From what I understand, every single DO schools reviews holistically to a certain extent.. At least the 9 I applied to and have talked to.. I was more concerned with something thinking there is an end all be all screening process when so many of these schools review even low GPA/MCAT students because of other outstanding traits in their app. I see what you're saying but I was less geared at "serious consideration vs. holistic" and more geared for "screening vs. non-screening".

That being said, schools I've talked to like PCOM and RVUCOM have immediate cut offs and informed me that with sub-500's your app is rejected. Through a lot of research though this does not at all seem to be the trend.

Really? It can't be too in depth because I got my VCOM secondary within 5 days of AACOMAS verification. I don't know about WVSOM because they have yet to send out secondaries due to technical issues.

PNWU is pretty regionally biased so I would assume they do GPA/MCAT/Residency/Ties to region/commitment to serving rural or underserved. People may disagree with me.

What I meant was that they don't screen GPA's or MCAT's for secondaries at a lot of schools. Sorry for the mix up. They review holistically (in my terms holistic = viewing whole app and not only considering GPA/MCAT). For example, I've received a secondary from a school that doesn't give them to everyone, but still sent mine without my MCAT because they review presecondary holistically. Either way the OP's question is long gone lol.

I thought everybody got a secondary everywhere...

CUSOM screens out students who have MCATs below 500 before the secondary, at least that was what I have read several times over on SDN. I did not apply even though I went to a good college 2 hours away from them. As far as "automatically" give out secondaries, well if you are below there minimums you won't get a secondary. It's all relative and fairly obscure to be honest. Anecdotally, I know someone who interviewed at a school after telling them he would be in the neighborhood. He was likely going to be ignored but showed genuine interest despite underdog stats.

edit: I found out after applying to KYCOM that they screen out below 500 so I am pretty pissed about that. I am gonna call them and discuss possible still looking at my app. $75 is a lot of money...

Gee, I thought every school would at least be willing to take your secondary fee money before an autorejected 3-4 minutes later lol.

I think many of them are catching on that it is kinda crappy to basically steal from students. I would say at least half of the schools I have applied to do a screen and 4-5 of them do some form of a holistic review of the app

I have gotten a secondary from all the schools I applied to except the following: Touro NY, VCOM, and WCU. I got verified on 6/26 if that makes a difference.

Touro-CA has a screen of 502 MCAT. I'm on pre-secondary hold there but I don't think I want to go there anyways so I'm not worried. wish I sent my primary to a different school instead of them

Just adding onto this, in its own way, some of the schools are exclusionary in other ways. PCOM does not budge from the 3 instructor letter requirement.

It's easy for some people, but as a non-trad, it's a pain in the neck, since almost all of my science professors taught me over 10 years ago. Two letters I have, but 3 I do not.

whats a secondary

whats a secondary
After you submit AACOMAS/AMCAS to the schools you want to apply to, each school may or may not do their own screening then send you a secondary application if you pass their screening or if they send them to all applicants. it's literally just a smaller second application to fill out. They are usually composed of 1-5 short essay questions about you, your motivations, your failures, why you want to attend that school, etc

KCU-COM (Source: currently on their pre-secondary hold)
I have to say, with the grades they require, might as well go full on allopathic. I'm sure that's the idea, though. They want someone who specifically wants DO.

I wish the phone app let us see signature. That would be a nice update because I have the same problem when i'm on my phone.
Yeah I'm still confused by your situation, possibly a glitch/human error?

Seems like you are doing well this cycle anyways. Doubt you have anything to worry about.
