101 is the one with 101 passages for your practice - i have it but haven't cracked it open yet but from skimming, i think it has some practice passages then a few 30 min tests and then some full length 85 min tests...MUST HAVE.

the other book goes over basic math tips like scientific notation, rounding, graphs, proporations, unit analyses, etc - i think any and all prep books have this. and then the book goes into the strategy one should use for tackling verbal, how to go about practicing, etc...i found it a bit crap at first b/c they recommended you do timed 30 min tests immediately...of course, if you have issues with comprehensiion then this would be a mistake...it's an okay book..it contains 3 30 min practice tests (3 passages each).

Definitely get the 101 passages book. I believe the 2002 version is the same? You should also try and get the VR book from EK that explains their strategy. Here is what it looks like... EK VR book

Good luck studying!

You need the math/VR book so you get the explanation of the VR strategy. Read carefully, do not skim over, take their advice 100%. Then use the 101 passages book for further practice. Do not worry about publication year, VR hasn't changed in the last 3 years.

Also, be sure to take AAMC full-length tests and apply VR strategies there.

Like the other posters said, get the 101 Passages book, regardless of whether you are using EK for other review (I highly recommend their bio review). And follow their testing schedule as best you can: skip at least one day between tests, otherwise you risk burning out. If you do all 11 tests in there + a couple of AAMC tests, that should be enough verbal practice.

Good luck!

hey everyone--
thanks for the advice...i already took the test once in april so i have already used up all the aamc test materials...my verbal score was a lot lower than what i was expecting. so this time around i am gonna make sure that i get enough practice for it...so i guess i will be getting the 101 passages book. should i bother taking the aamc verbal sections again??

The verbal section of the aamc tests can be taken again. If you still have your old answers you should compare them with your new ones and see where you need to focus your attention. If you got it wrong a second time (assuming you read the explanations the last time) then its something you need to expand and work on.
