I'm preparing for Step I, and I have tow questions:

1-want to ask which is better Goljan audio or Kaplan videos?

2- My plan is studying FA x3 + UW

with 2 books (FA for basic science: Organ systems and General principles) as refference to help me understand the FA.

with one of this: Goljan audio or Kaplan video

My Goal is 240

They're not even vaguely comparable. Goljan audio is less than 40 hours long, and focuses on high yield path with lots of correlations to other topics such as pharm and micro. Kaplan video is about 200 hours, and is a comprehensive review of everything you (should have) learned in medical school.

Unfortunately you will not get fair reviews on sdn as people on this site have drunk the Goljan coolaid long ago.

My advice would have a lot to do with your situation, what year of med school are you? how good is your basic science? how much time do you have? etc but in general, kaplan is like going back to school all over again, they teach the whole med school curriculum, n their teachers are a mixed bag, some are boring, others not so boring. Again Goljan teaches pathology, while kaplan videos have all the med school subjects taught by experts. If i was strictly doing revision for step 1, n i had about 5 weeks, i wouldn't be doing kaplan coz there is no time for it, but if you had a lot of time like foreign med graduates, i would do every review i can find on a torrent website, Good luck.

Try googling. You can google for everything these days.

thanks for spending 50% of your post history to enlighten me on this.

i have - but all i come up with are old links to torrent sites that dont work. anyone have any meaningful advice?

as Master Yoda said, "look harder",

i've heard that maybe asking other people at your medical school if they might be able to get you something that you are looking for is a good way to go.

People here haven't "drunk the Goljan koolaid" - they use Goljan's products because they get results. In general, FA+UWorld+Goljan RR has gotten better results than anything else for people on these boards, andI've heard nothing but negative things both here and elsewhere about Kaplan's materials. MedEssentials isn't nearly as good as FA despite what Kaplan would have you think.

If you have months and months to review, you would be much better off doing a "Taus method" review than doing all the Kaplan videos IMHO.

Goljan audio is a little out of date don't you think? I mean unless you're an auditory learner, what's in his audio lectures that's not in RR, sometimes it's verbatim.

Kaplan video is lengthy, but if you have many concepts in basic sciences that are weak or a bit 'hazy' shall we say and you need something fresh other than staring at a book which will be how most of your review will be spent. Then the videos are refreshing.

I have them, and I'll admit I've only used them a handful of times, mostly in physio.. But that's all.

And goljan audio.. I listened to the first 2 lectures, it wasn't bad but its just not something I enjoyed. There wasn't any advantage over reading his book, and you'll be reading it anyway so... your choice they're both contraband, pirated material freely available on the pirate bay.

Advice: Theres no one good book, or good source. Use them all wisely, and not necessarily entirely. Just cause you have the kaplan vids doesn't mean you should watch every single one. and of course, stick to FA like glue!

the field of pathology doesn't get updated too frequently, at least for step 1 material, his audios are still gold

Some of his antibiotic recommendations are a bit out of date, but other than that not much has changed.

Is there anyone who took the test and used Kaplan, and found out that Taus may have been a better way to spend their time?

I have access to all of the Kaplan stuff, as well as all of the Taus stuff, and really think that my time may be better spent reviewing key points over and over a few times, rather than redoing all of med school once using Kaplan. Is this a bad idea? I just keep hearing over and over again "first aid, goljan, and uworld"!

By the way, for pharm (since comlex is bugs and DRUGS), is there a concise source (flash cards)? I have the Kaplan ones and Lange 189 high yield cards. PLEASE NO RESPONSES FROM SOMEONE WHO CAN ONLY SPECULATE ON THIS STUFF. It's unhelpful to get "advice" from someone who hasn't done it yet.

Thanks!

I must be the only person in the world who loathes and hates FA with undying passion of a thousand fiery suns.

I would rather read a phonebook sometimes, I swear....

I was thinking of starting a post asking if there is anyone else who dislikes FA. Brother, you're not alone. Having said that, I haven't looked at more than 2-3 pages of FA, but it was enough for me to dislike it.

What is it in particular that people say is bad about the Kaplan videos?
