Hi there guys

first of all i'd like to thank u all for the ammazing job u've done with this site

i'm a foreign pharmacy student about to graduate, i got my green card through family, and want to ask what's the difference between applying for a job after being licensed as a pharmacist by passing the NABP exams (fpgec, 1500 intern hours, naplex, Mpje) and applying after attending the international pharm.d program at Western University of health sciences in california? i'm just interested in retail pharmacist jobs by the way so if i just get the license by passing the NABP prgram will it be harder of a mission to find a job as a retail pharmacist than attending the international 3 yrs pharm.d program? i heard that not many pharmacists accept the stress of working at a retail chain setting or something like that and retail jobs are not hrad to find so if i just want to become a retail pharmacist i don't have to waste the huge amount of money that's needed for the pharm.d program and i just have to be licensed in the state i want to apply to so how right is that?

thanks a lot in advance guys

if you passed the NAPLEX and MPJE then your ready to go. Just throw your resume out there and hope someone will bite. I wouldn't waste another 2 years of PharmD. If you work retail then all they care is whether you are licensed to practice and if you are able to handle the day to day grind of retail. You need to sell yourself in this case if you don't have much retail experience to offer.

thanks a lot but are u saying that i need to work for less money if i don't have much retail experience to offer? i mean i have 18 months of experience in a retail pharmacy in my country and i'm willing to spend the 3 yrs and a half needed to finish the licensing process working in a chain setting as a pharmacy technician u think that would count for an additional experience?

thanks alot for answering me

I thought you were in the process of getting a pharmacist license. If I'm correct. You are not eligible to take the NAPLEX/MPJE. In this case you could be certified as a technician. You could go through the technician licensing process from the state wherever that you live in. I think it's better to get some tech experience just to know what you're getting into at the state that you live in. As far as technician experience goes, most employers or the ones that I know and work for only cares how you present yourself at the interview. The experience as a tech or intern will help shape/transform how you are as a pharmacist later on. This means you are either an efficient and well rounded individual or be a lazy and incompetent as I have dealt with several ones in my life time. I think you will be fine. Just know how to sell yourself is the most important thing in this economy. Good luck to you.
