I was just reading the rejection thread and saw that alot of SDNers got rejected from Wake. I'm not applying until the 2009 cycle, but I thought it would be good for everyone to know which ones do and do not screen. I was going to apply to Wake, but I don't know if I should now.

If you guys have any ideas maybe we should make a tentative list, of all the schools that do screen.

Thanks

evms does, ucsf does, wake does obvie.....i can't think of any more from last year at the moment though

No schools screen like you think they do. Most just have low cutoffs, with some public schools having lower limits for instate and higher limits for out-of-state. They won't necessarily read your essays, letters of recommendation, lists of activities. They'll simply apply a filter to your GPAs and your MCAT score(s). Some say they screen, but send everyone a secondary and ask for $. Don't trust that the school will screen you out, and if you make it through that you have a real chance of getting an interview. You have to do that yourself with the MSAR and by asking those who know that school inside and out.

For in-state peoples, UNC only offers secondaries to those who will be granted an interview. I'd say that's some pretty heavy screening, far beyond the GPA/MCAT cut-offs at other schools.
