I was wondering which of these two applicants is better positioned GPAwise for medical school... Applicant X: cGPA 3.2 sGPA 3.5,
Applicant Y: 3.5 cGPA sGPA 3.2

Since medical school is primarily science, assuming credits and major were the same, I would assume that the higher science GPA would look better on an application. But, thats just my guess.

Totally depends on the school and what else is in their application.

And on the applicant. Both might be rejected equally as fast. 😉

Good thing there are other critical components of an application like MCAT, LOR, EC's, etc to counterbalance either of those weighted GPAs. Both might be accepted equally as fast. 😉

It also depends on how many science class these people have in the first place. If they are liberal arts majors who only took the pre-reqs, then there cum gpa is more important to me. If they are bio majors with 10 upper level science courses, their science GPA is more important to me.
