Hello I am 11 classes away from graduating as a Business - Computer Information Systems major and I have decided that I am will be going to medical school. ~1 year to graduate.

My question is: Should I complete this major while knocking out med school pre-requisites, or should would it be better for me to change my major to a pre-professional program and take ~3 years to graduate.

This is the pre-professional program, can you guys please provide me feedback on it?

The Official Major is Nutrition Science.

I am currently 26 years old, and have decided that I will go to medical school, so at this moment it's just a matter of selecting the best path for me to reach this goal.

I currently have a 3.8GPA and am in my 6th year of college.

If I were you, I would start taking the pre reqs for med school and still plan on completing the business degree. Have you volunteered or shadowed?

You do not need a pre-professional program to go to med school, that nutrition one seems to be for people who want to go to grad school for nutrition.

I have not volunteered or shadowed yet.

If I were to finish my degree and only finish half of my pre-reqs, and then transfer to a different school to finish my pre-reqs, would that look bad on my medical school application?

No. As long as the pre reqs are done at a school that is not community college. And you do well in those classes, which would be maintaining the gpa you have.

If you haven't volunteered or shadowed how do you know you want to go to med school?

I can certainly maintain the GPA, and perhaps even improve it.

As to how I know, it's a long story, but I've been in and out of hospitals and the doctors offices in my early life, and I firmly believe there are not enough doctors in the world. I am also compassionate of others, and I know what it's like to suffer alone without being taken seriously by healthcare professionals. Given all my past health struggles that I've now for the most conquered, I am willing to trade off the remaining golden years of my late 20s and early 30s to practice medicine and improve the quality of life of others.

I agree.

That way you have a backup if you bomb your pre-reqs, or lose interest.

You're already six years into college. Get the business degree, knock out the pre-req's and get out of there. Also if you use financial aid, beware of monetary limits and credits attempted limits.

I have 2 years left of financial aid in terms of monetary limits, and I am living at home so I am currently saving up my disbursements in case I need more time.

I am now looking forward to medschool and residency if that is the case, OrthotraumaMD.

I don't want the business degree to be my safety net to fall back on, but at the same time if I can't pass my pre-reqs I certainly don't have any business being in medschool.
