Hey, everyone--I'm trying to make a final decision on which post-bacc program to start this summer. I've been accepted to both Penn and Georgetown's premedical post-bacc programs (the ones for career-changers), and I do not qualify for most linkages at Penn (3.55 undergrad GPA). I'm also interviewing at Bryn Mawr soon, and that would be an obvious game-changer if I got in, but I am not completely confident I'll make it in there.

Does anyone have information about the linkage program at Georgetown? Specifically, is it a guaranteed interview, or something more secure? That would make a major difference in my decision.

I'm not super concerned about the difference between Penn being two years versus one year at Georgetown, but the prospect of rubbing shoulders with Perelman faculty and potentially applying there with a letter of rec from one of the doctors there is very exciting.

Between here and reddit and a few articles - this was the most reliable I got:

"Georgetown, for example, offers interviews with its medical school to roughly 50 percent of its postbaccalaureate program attendees. Still, the program's students have an overall 85 percent admission rate into medical school – not 100 percent."
https://www.usnews.com/education/bl...yths-about-postbaccalaureate-medical-programs

Mind you this includes D.O. + M.D. + M.D. carrib of those that finish the program. Of course you will rarely see a program calculate those that fail or withdrawal in terms of success stats, but I also don't see "matriculate" often as I see "admitted". The tendency for those to apply to Caribbean as part of the cycle (or sometimes more or less have to from SMPs/post bacc advisers telling them to) seems to muddy the waters at times. Even if one had 1 admission offer from a carrib school, but doesn't attend - unless I am wrong; I believe it is counted toward the seemingly high rates at times posted.

Georgetown has linkages to other schools like Pittsburgh Med, but that may be even stiffer than attempting to stay at Georgetown.

I am sure there are plenty that have finished and never would have gotten a chance otherwise to go to some really nice medical schools otherwise, but one always have to really dig before committing to the work/expense.

Also one of the school colors for Georgetown UG appears to be charcoal grey !

I do prefer the taste of clean-burning propane...

Thanks so much for the response! Definitely good to know about the number of post-bacc students who interview through the SMP. Whether or not that carries over to the career-changer program, that's good information. I'm fairly certain there's no formal linkage between the SMP and the GU SoM, but does anyone have details on how serious the linkage at GU is? I'm specifically wondering if it's a guaranteed interview like at CWRU or if it's something like a reserved seat once accepted.

For comparison's sake, does anyone have experience applying to the Penn SoM from the post-bacc without linkage?

Georgetown accepts about 30 students per year, on average, from their SMP to their med school. Sometimes it's more, sometimes it's less.

Is there any update on this topic? If you ended up going to Gtown, is there a strong linkage to the med school programs? If not, would you be able to find out if applicants would have a good chance of getting into med school without them? Especially schools like GW and NYU?
