I've been accepted to my state school, SUNY Downstate and to Dartmouth medical school. I'm trying to choose between the two. Even though Dartmouth has a better reputation, Downstate can save me lots of money and i can stay in a big city. It's a tough decision to make since I don't know how much better it would be for me to graduate from Dartmouth. Thanks for the advice.

I agree. Think of this as 4 years of your life that you will never get back. Do yourself a favor and spend it in NYC.

Go with Dartmouth- Downstate is in a bad part of NYC and although the clinical experience is great, the first two years will be difficult. Dartmouth has a much better rep and is worth the extra $$.

speaking from experience:
you'll find the upper valley a less expensive area to live in than the big city. lifestyle is obviously toned down a notch so you won't be dropping a hundred or more on drinks/clubs every weekend. rents are for the vast majority very reasonable, plus you can find a place in hanover within walking/biking distance from school and thus not spend too much money on gas or public transport (there really isn't any!). and remember, no sales tax in NH 😀
