Okay, here is the deal. I am not the strongest candidate for medical school, but I am determined I will get in this coming year. I am a philosophy major, white/hispanic, 3.4 gpa, 26 MCAT. I am also from the state of Utah. I really wanted some good opinions on what schools to apply too. I don't need anyone to tell me how to improve my stats. I am currently working on that. I just want to know which school are best at accepting out of state students, minoritiy students, or diverse majors. If anyone know of these school that fit all or one, please let me know. I am having a hard time finding them. Thank you so much!!

one of my best friends at UMDNJ-SOM is from Utah, we have the highest percentage of minority students of any osteopathic school, and we have a chef in our class. I think that answers it for you.

Best of luck!

hey,
i am an art hirtory major. I cannot tell you my stats because i havent taken mcat yet, but i was also looking into some DO schools.
I personally want to get into CCOM or DMU. I hear all the good things about those schools.
Your stats look good as far as i know you should get in.
It is hard to say though where you should apply. You never know where you will get in untill you apply. I will be applying to as many schools as i can(probobly close to 15 DO schools).
Do not worry about your major. It doens't matter what you study. Adcoms look into well rounderd applicants and they rather see someone who was passionate about their major(search for the post about majors here).
Good luck in the upcoming cycle :luck:

Are asians considered a minority when applying to DO schools? Because I know they are not considered minorities for MD schools.

I'm a 3rd year DMU student from Utah. There are at least 10 students that I can think of in my class who are either from Utah or did their undergrad there. Your stats are decent for most private DO schools. Apply to several private DO schools, and you'll get interviews.

Regardless of whether it's a DO or MD school or dental school, Asians are not even close to being considered an under-represented minority. Asians technically still are a minority but not by much, especially when compared to other minority racial/ethnic groups. I know this firsthand, so just keep in mind that the DO application process will not show you any aditional love for being Asian.
