I apologize if this has been asked before. I did try to search for this, but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for (or maybe I wasn't typing in the right thing). Anyways, I'm trying to narrow down my list of MD schools to apply to. Does anyone know which med schools will not accept CC credits to fulfill prereq requirements? Or can someone point me to a thread that has a list of these schools?

Thanks!

PS: I've heard Boston University doesn't accept CC units. But when I checked their website, they state that CC credits are just frowned upon, and you will have to explain them in a secondary. http://www.bumc.bu.edu/admissions/applicationprocess/requirements/

I checked a long list of universities (like 50+) because I wanted to put together some sort of list for people, but I gave up when I could only find one single university that said anything about community college credits not being accepted. That was Creighton University.

College studies prior to admission to the School of Medicine should include subjects appropriate to a liberal arts education. These subjects must be taken within the framework of a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited institution located within the United States or Canada. The following courses are required for admission and are considered essential for the successful pursuit of the medical curriculum at Creighton University as well as preparation for the MCAT.

That's seriously all I could find. I'm sure there are others since I didn't check everywhere, but I really don't think it's something you should be worried about above and beyond your GPA.

I can not think of any schools that do not accept CC credit but some schools clearly state that they do not recommend taking prereqs at CC (NYU is one of them).

Thanks guys. But apparently Yale does not accept CC units: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=719417
But I'm not applying to Yale anyways.

Anyone know of any other schools??

I'm having a really difficult time narrowing my schools down. I don't want to waste money on schools that won't accept my CC units.

Yale doesn't accept CC units if you took them after going to a 4 year college.

Yale doesn't. Case Western frowns upon it as well (they suggest you take upper-level courses at a 4 yr institute to compensate).

Aside from Yale, to my knowledge schools are willing to accept it. Some highly discourage it, but normally with upper level courses from a 4-yr school, you are good to go.

Oh okay, thank you. I did transfer from a CC to a university. I did not take CC classes after I enrolled at the university. I took gchem and physics at the CC (it was required to transfer to the university), but took a lot of upper div bio and ochem at the university.

lol... bumped an old thread on accident.

Just so everyone knows, Yale does accept CC credits now. Not sure if they used to or not.

U.S. Community College courses are acceptable, provided that the courses include laboratory work and are comparable in content to courses at four-year colleges, universities, or institutes of technology.
