So after application season I ended up with some pretty good decisions, even if I was rejected by all my dream schools. I need help deciding where I will go for the next 4 to 8 years. I am hoping to pursue a career in medicine.

Options: 1) Cornell - 30k/yr - Biomedical Engineering - I dislike stress culture in general. I usually prefer collaboration over competition. Also, I covet my free time and I feel like Eng at Cornell + premed classes + research + a job + shadowing would be pretty rough on my life. Also, it is really god damn expensive.

2) Northwestern 20k/yr - Electrical Engineering. I like the atmosphere at NU but I am apprehensive about the premed attrition rate, esp in engineering. I want to make it back into the Texas med school system so I don't want to be screwed with a low GPA.

3) Rice 8k/yr (but can be reduced if I conduct research) - Bioengineering. I like the collaborative atmosphere of Rice a lot, I love the Houston area and a great deal of BioEs do get into med school. Unfortunately Rice took away the 4.3 GPA thing if you get an A+.

4) GA Tech 10k/yr (reduced by a small amount by pursuing research which I set up over there) Biomedical Engineering. Number one for BME and really prestigious which makes me love it. Also, I love the engineering culture over there and I don't know why but I love the vibe of the school. That being said, most BME premeds go to a GA med school and I'm OOS so I don't really know what will happen to me considering that the program is insanely hard.

5) UT Austin 0k/yr - BME. I like UT a lot, but I hear complaints abt their department quite a bit. Also, its disconcerting that such a great portion of their class ends up in finance rather than engineering/med school. The course is really long and most people take 5, rather than 4 years, which I don't want to do ever.

6) UAB EMSAP (5k/yr for BS, matches tuition of any Tx med school I get into (11k a yr) otherwise 27k/yr for 4 yrs. I get guaranteed acceptance into their med school after 4 years, I can apply anywhere I want without losing it as well. I can attempt to graduate in 3 years and apply to other med schools as well, all without forfeiting my seat. Furthermore, they have placed several students in top med schools like Harvard, Yale, JHU (18-20% get into t20 med schools). I don't really want to go to a t20 med school because I enjoy my money and I don't know if I will receive enough FA.

7)HBS 3/4 (0k/yr 3 years, then 11k/yr 4 years but I can take a research position and get like 2k/yr med school tuition). I have the option to apply to other med schools while keeping my guaranteed med school spot in either McGovern or UTMB - Galveston. I dislike Galveston because everyone is super cutthroat from what I saw when I visited, and McGovern seems to have a more collaborative atmosphere.

I don't know what type of doctor I want to become, although I do enjoy critical care, trauma surgery, and rads based on my admittedly limited exposure. I want to continue to research because it is actually enjoyable.

I am kind of putting my top 3 as Rice and the BSMD programs and I really don't want to spend a lot of money. Also because I have the engineering scholarship at Rice, if I switch out of that major, I think my tuition goes up a crap ton so I gotta stick it out.

Oh, and, I have like 3 days to make my decision because I procrastinated for an extremely long time. Someone please send help.

Your question is damn difficult to answer without a crystal ball, but if my son was asking... I'd tell him save money now. Cornell is only going to help you if you end up in the top 10% for MCAT, grades, etc. and you plan on attending Duke, Harvard, Hopkins, etc. That's a big if! On the other hand, save some loot, attend your state school, score in the top 10% and you can still get into Duke, Harvard, Hopkins, etc. You are simply an untested entity at this time and there is no way of predicting what your application will look like in 4 years. Point being, it doesn't really matter, in the end it's just more debt.

You said the most positive things about this one. Also, what does "took away the 4.3 GPA thing if you get an A+" mean?
